Ran with Danielle 7 miles and 3 on my own. I felt really good at the end of my run so I pushed 5:41 and 5:35 on my last two miles. Very windy!

Ok I finally got a computer access at the condo we are at. I got up to the start and organized my pacers for the race and then I shedded my clothes and did a mile warmup. The wind came straight up the canyon and when I turned around and went back up to the starting line, I found it easier to run up the canyon. It was a warmer start despite the wind. We started on time and immediately, no one would go out because it would be suicide. We were running single file and I stayed about 8th overall behind BJ the windbreaker! He was a good sport for letting me stay behind for the first few miles. The group really didnt surge until mile 3 or so when we went from a head wind to a cross wind. Then it opened up and started to spread out. BJ started working on the main pack and I couldnt stay with him and found myself by myself and whenever there was a head wind it just made me fall back even more. I Passed a few guys which put me into 5th overall and that dreaded last hill at mile 9 brought me to my knees. I got passed immediately by 3 guys and when it went downhill I passsed 2 back. When we got out of the canyon Justin Park was running by himself ahead of us three and one of the guys surged and then the other and I followed suit but only had enough gusto to pass one at mile 12. The wind was so hard on us that I hit a 6:46 and knew I was way off. I worked harder in this race than any other half Ive run and my time doesnt show for it which is disheartening. But like many races Ive done before, I feel I showed better clout with this obstacle as Im sure the leaders would have been out of my site by mile 6 and this race they werent. I could see them all the way to the bottom of the canyon. Hopefully this race will help me get some PRs this year because if I worked like this on my last PR course Im sure I couldve hit a 1:08. Which was American Fork half. I felt like I coasted that race for the most part and had to try and push hard the last 5 to hang on to a win. I love this canyon and the drummers at the bottom and a nice warm getaway in March.
