I went to Lifetime early again this morning and met Michelle and did an extension of yesterdays run. We got to about a 7:40 pace and it felt good. I got a plane ticket to Boston today so Im in! Yeah! Now I have to concentrate on getting a good time and staying strong through Newton hills and helping our Masters team kick some butt! Thanks Steve for helping out!

I did a warm up pace up to Daybreak lake and did a 5k time trial with some wind to slow me down. I did my first mile with tail wind in 5:13, second mile with cross and head wind in 5:44, third mile in 5:48. Last .1 in 25 seconds.  It is a 17:12 5k and I felt really good. I tried out my new Saucony Kinvara's and I really really like them! super light and fast! I am stoked for Boston and ready to giver er hell!

I went up to Daybreak Lake and met Michelle for a 7 mile run. We did a 7:45 average and pushed her a bit hard on the up hill. It was such a great morning run! I felt really good. I hope this is a good sign for Boston.

Race: Boston Massacre (26.2 Miles) 03:02:08

Ok so Im just going to get to the nitty gritty. I started the race with Jeff Shadley and Steve Anderson. We agreed to take it very conservatively the first half and I really felt that we stuck to the plan. I dedicated the first 5-5k times to my family members. This kept my head in a 5k at a time instead of worrying about my mile splits. My first 5k was dedicated to Sarah, My second to Misty, Third to Brookie, 4th or 20k to Bailey, and my last 5k got me to the 25k mark for Boston.  This got me through a very hot race start of 80 degrees and I felt it kept my mind off miles as they were a dragging! I took a cup of gatorade then water then another water to drink partly and the rest to dump over my head. It felt good and kept me moving. I lost Jeff about mile 8 and could see him for the next several miles. I stopped at mile 11 for a potty break and then got at it again. I was very overheated when I stopped.  I got back into a rythm of high 6 pace that seemed to work for me. I had no intention of pushing harder know the Newton hills were coming. I did ok with the first few hills after mile 16 and then noticed they were really dragging me down but could catch up to those around me on the down.  I had a hard time at mile 19 and they were playing Tonight We ARE YOUNG by Fun and I started singing it out loud and made my spirits stronger into totally forgetting about the hills. It totally worked because I got through Heartbreak hill without even knowing! Im serious, that usually gets in my head but after I got going down the back side I noticed the sign that said Newton is All In! I thought, how is that possible I missed it. Mile 23 I walked while drinking and tried to get back into it and Steve passed me. So I worked on catching back up to him and I was side by side at mile 24. We got to another water station and I slowed down to make sure I drank and when I did that was it! my legs tightened up but not horrible. I got back to a 7:30 pace and felt ok then 25 came and right before the bridge I froze up. litterally my muscles were like charlie horses. I couldnt move I tried stretching, it made it worse. I walked and had the crowd push me to a sort of shuffle. I was flicking my right leg around to get it to move. I finally had the down hill of the bridge to help me go and got up it and my legs were severely sore. I made it to the finish and had to get medical help. I was really dehydrated and had cramping and when they took my temperature I was 102. They made me stay and drink their nasty gatorade recovery drink. I think that is the nastiest stuff they could come out with. They worked me over and released me and I was able to walk . This is the hottest in Boston History. Im glad I took part and tried my best to help the team. I think I for sure had a 2:45 in me easy with nicer temps. Our team took 4th overall out of 67 teams. 8:43 (first 3 runners in on our team) Im sorry to my team for a poor performance but glad to have another Boston in.

Met up at Michelles house and did a seven mile loop with a 8:15 pace. Kind of warm out this morning!

Evening run:  I ran up to Herriman high school to watch my daughter's track meet. I did 4x 800's with a 400 jog. I had serious head wind and hill to challenge me. This was a great workout despite the slow times. 1st-2;59, 2nd-3:03, 3rd-2:58, 4th-2:54.

Ok, so I went into this race wanting a Masters Win and trying to stay with the leaders as long as my legs would allow. The race started and we were off. I pushed a little fast as always down the first stretch and knew I shouldnt be leading this race with Jake, Jon and the others that are so fast. I stayed in the front but let them slow me down thank goodness, I wouldve felt it harder in the end miles.  My competition in the Masters was Dennis and a few others I saw before the race start. At mile 2 I think it was, the pack came up along me, then pushed to a lead. Scott Keate followed after and looked really strong with them and I stayed behind them 25 feet or so. Mile 2 had some down to get me going again and I found myself alone at this point with Dennis on heels. I got to about mile 5 I think and there was a turnaround but I saw arrows pointing at a direction to go around the round about clockwise so I did and I saw two cones that were on a trail so I took the trail and went down a steep section and found myself at a dead end! I turned around and went up the steep part figuring I was the only one that went that way but saw Dennis and told him it was a dead end. He was pretty mad as I was also. Then I saw Matt Poulsen and Scott Keate follow after me. I am so sorry I drew you guys off. It really got in my head and I knew it did the others as well. By the time I came back onto the course I added .4 miles! ugh! I saw Andrea and was barely ahead of her. lol  I tightened up as well and every little up steep part burned my legs bad. Then on the downhill parts I  could get going again. Oh well. I got passed by Matt on mile 9 and just tried to keep with him but there were too many up pieces and I kept fading away from him.  I got to mile 12 and saw Matt go straight on a part thats supposed to turn left and the guy over the turn told me he told him to turn but he must not have heard me. I yelled his name and he later realized it and added anouther extra half mile onto the mix. Oh my gosh I was so disappointed with my time but I really hit a 1:17 ish at the 13.1 mark. I feel a little guilt knowing I messed up and caused 3 guys behind me to add.  My overall time was 9 full minutes behind 4th place. lol Oh lovely.  Its a very scenic course and challenging and dangerous in some parts if your running next to someone. It could easily be turned into the Spartan race if you wanted to push your opponent into a hanging bush. lol  I got 1st overall for Masters and $300.00 bucks to keep my hobby going or my house payment. :) Good to see everyone out and enjoy a chilly morning together. :)
