Ok, so I went into this race wanting a Masters Win and trying to stay with the leaders as long as my legs would allow. The race started and we were off. I pushed a little fast as always down the first stretch and knew I shouldnt be leading this race with Jake, Jon and the others that are so fast. I stayed in the front but let them slow me down thank goodness, I wouldve felt it harder in the end miles.  My competition in the Masters was Dennis and a few others I saw before the race start. At mile 2 I think it was, the pack came up along me, then pushed to a lead. Scott Keate followed after and looked really strong with them and I stayed behind them 25 feet or so. Mile 2 had some down to get me going again and I found myself alone at this point with Dennis on heels. I got to about mile 5 I think and there was a turnaround but I saw arrows pointing at a direction to go around the round about clockwise so I did and I saw two cones that were on a trail so I took the trail and went down a steep section and found myself at a dead end! I turned around and went up the steep part figuring I was the only one that went that way but saw Dennis and told him it was a dead end. He was pretty mad as I was also. Then I saw Matt Poulsen and Scott Keate follow after me. I am so sorry I drew you guys off. It really got in my head and I knew it did the others as well. By the time I came back onto the course I added .4 miles! ugh! I saw Andrea and was barely ahead of her. lol  I tightened up as well and every little up steep part burned my legs bad. Then on the downhill parts I  could get going again. Oh well. I got passed by Matt on mile 9 and just tried to keep with him but there were too many up pieces and I kept fading away from him.  I got to mile 12 and saw Matt go straight on a part thats supposed to turn left and the guy over the turn told me he told him to turn but he must not have heard me. I yelled his name and he later realized it and added anouther extra half mile onto the mix. Oh my gosh I was so disappointed with my time but I really hit a 1:17 ish at the 13.1 mark. I feel a little guilt knowing I messed up and caused 3 guys behind me to add.  My overall time was 9 full minutes behind 4th place. lol Oh lovely.  Its a very scenic course and challenging and dangerous in some parts if your running next to someone. It could easily be turned into the Spartan race if you wanted to push your opponent into a hanging bush. lol  I got 1st overall for Masters and $300.00 bucks to keep my hobby going or my house payment. :) Good to see everyone out and enjoy a chilly morning together. :)

300.00 dollars would be nice for anything :D Good job Walter. Sorry you veered off course. I know that section you went off-- I have run this race and they used to run that as part of the course--- it is dreadful coming back up that!! Oh well...bonus miles right? ; D

From Tom on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 11:38:42 from 67.199.179.59

From Rob on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 12:29:37 from 204.15.86.95

Yeah, I ran part of the course this morning and was really confused exactly where it went, the Police didn't seem to know either.

Nice job on the Masters win.

From Jake K on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 13:04:53 from 67.182.215.126

I love your comment about how easy you could turn this course into a spartan race! :-)

Great run this morning - and good job running Andrea down despite the detour! AKA BONUS MILES!

From Tara on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 13:53:29 from 75.169.138.91

WHOA!!!! That is significant, but you still walked away with your goal, despite the time. Super fun to get money! Good for you Walter:)

From Andrea on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 14:12:19 from 67.182.215.126

"I saw Andrea and was barely ahead of her. lol " Thanks a lot.

Just kidding, I was very surprised to see you and knew something was up!

I thought it was quite entertaining to see in the results 4 1:10s and then 1:19.

Good job today - you shouldn't be disappointed. It's a solid race!

Nice work out there Walter. Running an extra .4 and still reaching your goal! If I'd have done that I probably would've just gotten to the dead end and sat down and cried :)

It was great to see you this morning and CONGRATS on a great win and some fab money to keep it ALL going!

Walter that was really fun to see you and Misty and Boston. It was totally unexpected! Despite that extra half mile, you are still running strong as ever. I am impressed and amazed with you even still. Nice nice job!

Lily, thanks for that.

Smooth, lucky number 11 comes through even with my bonus miles.

nice job and good to get some good cash. looks like a good race

From Kendall on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 21:05:46 from 65.100.247.159

Walter, I feel so bad about you going off course. I take the course marking very seriously and personally in that I personally marked the course, checked it and rechecked it. At the end of the day, that IS my job. I tried to eliminate any possibility of going off piste but obviously I need to tighten it up. I'll do better.

It's a crazy adventurous run only explained by running it. I hope the "Masters" win helped take off some of the sting.

Congrats on a great run and a fast time despite the additional miles.

From Walter on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 21:53:31 from 97.49.150.27

Kendall, I had an absolute blast! That course is so crazy! I had a laugh when I actually looked at it on a map. Those two cones messed me up on the circle. I should've used my instincts better. But I had a fun day and enjoyed hanging out with friends on a great day. No snow! Lol perfect running conditions though. Thanks for a great race and it's always a bonus to go home with cash!

From Superfly on Mon, Apr 30, 2012 at 16:49:44 from 74.211.21.81

Good job Walt! Way to bring home the bacon.
