I ran last night in south jordan and it was in the high 40's low 50's. When I got up to Ogden this morning it was 28 degrees and there was snow still on the ground there!  Man I cant believe the differance 35 miles makes.  I ran the 10 mile race today and I could feel congestion in my lungs when I did a 3 mile warmup.  I wanted to try to keep a 5.30 pace for the first 4-5 miles until the hills came up but my legs were too tired from last week. I kept a short distance from Adam the whole race until mile 7.  That is the most brutal hill climb any 10 mile race can have it slowed my times to 7 minute miles.  Then, right at mile 7 Jon flipped his roller skates from under his shoes and said "see ya later suckers!"  Im going to have a review board look at it. Its deffinately suspicious!  Adam kept with him for a bit and then extended the lead from myself.  The last mile had about 2/10 of a hill climb and I thought maybe I could gain some time on Adam but my legs told me I was freekin crazy.  I had Chad right on my heels and I wanted to try to sprint the last .25 mile but there was so  much black ice and slick on the finish that I actually slowed way down.  That course was very dangerous! Very slick and I lost traction alot!  Almost fell several times! This race was too close to Moab. Thats all I got to say about that!

My time was around 1:00.27

Sorry I didnt run with you guys after, I had to cough my lungs up! Ill see ya out at the half!

Our Team finished 2nd,3rd,4th,5th, and I think cody came right in 6th.

Great job Walter!!

From Cody on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 13:29:43

Nice Job Walter. Very impressive post-Moab race. Looking pretty good this year!

From wheakory on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 13:30:59

Nice running Walter in tough conditions. Your muscles are so much harder to move in colder weather. I experienced that in a 10k race that I ran this morning. Still an awesome time.

From Jon on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 13:42:58

Great job, especially right after 2 races. I agree that the course was tricky with all the ice. And the hills, of course. Hard course and you did great! Are you doing the 1/2 marathon?

From Walter on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:42:46

Thanks Tracy! I love your photo of moab! Look at all those people taking a pee behind you! A picture is a thousand words tracy! Keep on running

From Superfly on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:46:46

Walt your on a spree of killing race courses. That is three weeks in a row with very solid race performances. Good job man and keep up the good work.

From Walter on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:53:20

Thanks Cody that was a hell of a hill climb.

To John I am doing the half and Ill see ya there

To Wheatly, I promise the warm weather is heading your way. We are starting to see St. George weather now!

To Clyde thanks Im just trying to be like you! You know your my idol right now. The only other person to take the focus off my puking!

From Superfly on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:58:49

A puking idol??? I can be that. It almost happened today but I fought it off like a champ. It's all about the Jedi stuff to keep the food down.

From James on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 15:00:25

Nice running, especially for running a race every weekend! You need to quit losing to Jon! :)

From Jon on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 15:20:50

Clyde- what Jedi tricks do you use to keep food down?

From Walter on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 15:59:25

Thanks James, I hope to be more healthy by the half. I still dont know how I averaged 5.30 miles for my first leg of 6 miles down in arizona. It even had an incline. Who was that? I guess I had the fear of letting the team down. I run better by myself than with pressure. I dont get it. Oh well.

To Clyde- How did you manage to not puke on any girls today! Good you are yes. Fast you run. Win you will!

From Superfly on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:04:10

Jon- What Walter said...I just use the force... until it doesn't work and then I just blow chunks on people. When the food wants to come up the force of gravity won't even stop it.

From James on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:07:27

I was going to say, Clyde is probably not the one to be asking how to hold down his subway during or after a race!!!

From Walter on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:43:24

Thats right James! I barely kept my down by popping pepcid's every hour. Or I would have been in the same boat. Its the puke o rama! From the movie Stand By Me! Funny

From dave holt on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 17:26:01

Good job Walter - when I tried to catch Clyde, I thought about distracting him with some massive puking noises as some sort of revenge for that girl, but I just couldn't get close enough to him.

From Walter on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 18:07:37

Thanks Dave, that is funny I know a good psych out method for future races now! Im afraid of puking myself if I do it though! It probably wouldnt be a good tactic for me. Watch out Clyde!

From Adam RW on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 21:34:20

Walter, You helped me so much today. Thank you. You had a truly amazing performance considering your cold, the course and your races the last two weekends.

From Walter on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 22:24:59

thanks adam, just before the 7 mile mark I thought I was on the last hill and then we turned the corner and my heart sank when I saw that last little present for us. I tried to run next to you but didnt have the legs. my skinny legs are no good on up and down courses. You need the thoroubred legs like johns. Plus the flip out skates help. You know there was a skate boarder just behind you and I couldnt tell if the sound was from him or john.lol I thought maybe I could sweat out my cold but it keeps getting worse. I hope to see you out at some other races buddy ok?

From Jon on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 23:56:47

I don't think I've ever seen so much discussion on puking, especially on using it as a race strategy...

From Jon on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 23:58:35

By the way, you just need to buy some of those kid shoes that have the wheel in the heel. That is what worked so well for me today ;)

From Walter on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 10:45:45

Hey Jon I freekin knew it! There is no act of human nature that can make you go downhill so fast without wheels!lol

Isnt puking great jon? jk Ok no more puke talk for a while! At least next race wink wink!

From Jon on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 11:15:39

I've never puked during a run, so I'm not the guy to be talking to about it. Some of us can actually hold our food down...

From Walter on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 11:38:38

Ouch Jon, thats just hurtful. You didnt down a subway a few hours before your second leg of wbr did you? Because I honestly would have been the 3rd in our van next to Logan and Clyde to barf if I wasnt downing pepcid ac's like candy corns! Look now there I go again with the bark talk. I digress.

From Jon on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 12:05:44

Hurtful? Supposed to be humourous.

Besides, we all have issues. I may not have puking issues, but I sure have multiple-visits-to-the-port-o-potty issues...

From Walter on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 12:27:17

It is humorous! I do remember the portopotty swap we had at st. george a couple years ago. Very true!

From Adam RW on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 12:40:06

I wouldn't say hurtful either. In fact I think it is just Jon admitting he has never tried all out. You only puke if you are going 100%! :)

From Walter on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 12:57:07

Well, if he starts puking then Im screwed! It will be green shorts ahead of me running off in the distance!

From jtshad on Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 05:52:23

Great running Walter. Man you are tearing up the courses when you are sick...wait til you have both lungs back (if you can find it on the side of the road).

From Walter on Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 08:52:43

Thanks Jeff, I hope I can be in ship shape for the Half in 3 weeks.
