Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

We are fine. We lost some oak branches and fence panels, but that's it. Ironically, the place where we stayed during the storm is still without power. The kids had a great time boogie boarding, skimboarding, and kayaking the backyard storm surge where we were staying between feeder bands. Best. Hurricane. Ever. My parents lost a fence panel, too. They come back today, if there is enough gas and traffic allows it. Time for me to get to the other side of the state on Saturday morning - 2.5 hours. Time to get back Monday afternoon - 5 hours. Lots of re-routing and backups. Water crossing the road, etc.

I have been watching the buzzword of the hurricane season for the last couple of years. Apparently, every reporter got the memo to say "Eyewall Replacement Cycle" in every report.

As it relates to running, I wish I had a treadmill right now. I usually run in the dark, and there is way too much debris out there to make that a safe proposition. I'll get back to it. I promise.

3.5 miles. Hood route. 6 am start. Even with the long break from running, this went pretty well. Hopping branches and running through spiderwebs is no joyride, but still.

I talked to the old man that walks along my route every day. Of course, we talked about the storm. Irma shook 452 beautiful avocados out of his tree. I don't even like avocados, or guacamole. He can't even pick up the cans he put them in because of the weight. I'd like to help him out, so I took 15 to work.

These are the untold stories of Irma's devastation! Ha!

I got all of my parents' hurricane protection down with the boys last night. We were moving. I'd like them to come home to a normal house. Tonight is yard work.

7.5 miles. Hood route. 5:30 am start. Sticky. As in, it was super hot and humid, and also, there were sticks everywhere. So far, I have distributed 50 avocados at the office. That is not enough. The people want more. Today, I will go to work with more than 100 football-sized avocados. That will show them!
