* = These 5 races were run at 67.9 seconds per pound. If I want a PR, I need to weigh less than 170 pounds. Short-Term Running Goals: 2024 GOALS:
to not get fat Long-Term Running Goals: Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states. Personal: I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.
I started running because someone dared me to.
I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

| 6am start. Hood route to Legacy trail to colonia and back. I was so looking forward to saying 10.2 Ohpossum free miles, but... On the way back, right before I crossed Dona Bay, the biggest Opossum ever waddled into the middle of the trail. Like, I originally thought it was a racoon. So, naturally, I picked up a rock and whipped it at him. I missed him by @ a foot. He didn't even flinch. So as I ran towards him, I started clapping my hands. That made him move. His back had ridges. So flipping gross. Oh yeah, the run was pretty good. I'm playing a lot of soccer lately with the boys. So I'm a little sore-er than usual on most runs. This one felt good, though. |

| 10.2 miles. Hood route to Legacy trail to colonia and back. 6:45 am start. Upper 60s and humidIty and stuff. Yesterday - 1 hour of soccer, and 2 hours of beach. Ever have one of those runs where you think "I'm sore now, so I'll start out with a short stride, and as the run goes on, I'll open up to my regular stride"? It took me about 7 miles to not be all short stridey. I'm glad I fought through. |

| So, I've been in injury denial for a while. I don't know if it has to do with running at soccer, or change in shoes or what, but I haven't felt right in about a month. My left hip has been hurting mostly non stop. Since I make myself run even though I hurt, now my lower back has started hurting in some sort of body compensating move. I'm not going to go to the doc about this, like I have in the past. I don't see much point in paying someone to tell me that maybe I should take some time off from running. Or worse yet, paying for an x-ray or MRI to have the doc say I don't know - Could be this, could be that. Fun times over here, I tell ya.

| 3.5 miles. Better, but not perfect. What makes folks run the Barkleys? I enjoy watching the videos, but have no desire to do it myself. Kind of like Triathlons. Nope.

| Hood route, then boy #1's soccer game. He played well, but the important thing here is that I turned off the dad-coaching-from-the-sideline machine. Very difficult. It was obvious the other team had a solid player in #3. Cover that kid, win the game. Simple strategy. But I held back. Not easy. |

| First, the injury update. I went to a "regular" doctor on wednesday night. I say regular, because it was not my usual orthopedic doc that I run with occasionally. That dude was in Boston. "Regular" doctor gave me a shot and a prescription. I go back next wednesday. No running until then.
Second, congrats to all who ran Boston. I was tracking like 5 people that all had great starts, but then fell apart at the half. 3 of them floridians! So if those guys couldn't take the heat and the weather, I'm pretty sure it was miserable for all parties involved. So, good job for anyone finishing!
Third, because of the doc visit and other shennanigans wednesday, i missed the one night only boston movie. I would have liked to see it. There is not a lot of info about when it will come out on video. Bummer.

| 3.5 miles. Hood route. 6am start. Super hot and humid. Other than being old and out of shape, I might actually be done with this hip thing. Inguinal ligament. Whatever. The Tommy had a soccer game. It might have been his best game ever. Solid defense. Then boogie boarding with the boys at north jetty. Good day. |

| Almost 30 years ago, I drove a section of Center Road with some friends, doing about 80 mph, at night with my lights off, looking for the "Center Road Ghost." There was an urban legend in Venice. The story goes...Motorcycle rider...blah, blah, blah,.... Center road dead ends into River Road...words, words, words,....they never found his headlight, or his head-ooooh!.... If you drive on Center Road at night, his headlight will appear-Ooohhh! Soooo Creepy! So, in my youth, I have done this, on a few occasions. I have determined that the way the road used to be - headlights at a distance appear to be a single light, in really close proximity. It was just the way the old road reflected the light. Anyhow, I ran this section of Center Road this evening. And I didn't even think about the Center Road Ghost, until I was at River Road, and a motorcycle flew by.
The run was super hot, (feels like 96) but I feel like my injury is gone. I held 8:20 pace, pretty even, for the whole thing. I'm pleased with that. I am considering running a 5k on Mother's Day. I probably will.
