Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

Tropical storm Debbie. I took boy #1 to the beach to surf. The waves were a bit too much for him, but he got out there, and gave it a shot. The storm hit here at high tide. So everything is flooded.

My dad fell at the memory care facility. They took him to the hospital. I picked up my mom and drove her there, because 81 year olds shouldn't be driving in tropical storms. We stayed with my dad in the ER until midnight.

Dad now transferred to a room. They are talking about releasing him in 5 days. Which is when I will be in Indianapolis. so that stinks. Checked out mother in laws house. No flooding this time.

My mom is now sick. I spent a good chunk of the day getting her squared away with medicine, etc. also getting a parking permit for boy #2 senior year. He's not here to do it.

Had an early meeting at the hospital to discuss what the memory care facility needs my dad to be able to do, so he can be released back to them. The answer is basically he can't be bed ridden. He has to be able to get up to get on toilet, wheelchair, etc. with some assistance. He's going to need some PT in the hospital. I left the meeting feeling like I could leave town, and if anything comes up, my brother could handle it.

Mom's getting sicker. Meds are barely working.

Then I flew to Indy, feeling like a selfish jerk.

5 miles. Mostly around the canal walk in Indianapolis. Never been here before. So far this is an impressive city. We are here for the dci world championships at Lucas oil stadium. This will be the end of an amazing summer for boy #2 of touring the country with Spirit of Atlanta.

We are also excited to get our son back.

Rode bikes for 2+ hours in Indianapolis. Great town. And we saw the semifinals of spirit of Atlanta at Lucas oil stadium. Back home, My kid's high school band director was so psyched about John being in the show, that he streamed a watch party in the performing arts center. Also back home, they released my father from the hospital. And returned him to the memory care facility where he has been living for the last 3 months. Since mom is still sick, my brother oversaw that move. Very grateful for him heading that up.

5 miles. Mostly around the canal walk in Indianapolis. Slightly different route to and from the canal walk as Thursday. I learned a lot from yesterday's bike tour. We take the boy home tomorrow. Spirit of Atlanta finished in 16th place in the semifinals. Only the top 12 make the cut to today's finals. It was a great show. And I'm proud of him.
