Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

7.5 miles. 6 am start. Hood route to legacy trail and back. Breezy.

6:30 pm. Island Walk mini-bridges. (the anti-tempo.) 2.4 up. then weight training. then 2.4 down. The temps dropped while I was at work today to 59 degrees. Off tomorrow. 20+ Saturday.

Interesting non-running related stuff. I got a note home from school today for boy #2. In part, it says "John licked a book I gave him ...." I should make a list of things I have to say as a parent, that I would have never imagined I would say in my life. I could come up with a bunch more, but the two of my favorites right now are: 1. "Stop throwing bait fish at those people." and 2. "Let's try not to lick books anymore."

I had to sign the note for him to take it back tomorrow.

I'm going to lick it, because that's how we roll over here.

My mom loves to tell the story about how when I was 7 or so, we were learning how to measure things with a ruler. I conducted some sort of contest, whereby me and the other boys at my table measured a certain appendage to see which was the longest.

Glad I was a kid in 1986 instead of 2016. If licking a book gets a letter sent home these days, I'd probably be locked away in a school for mentally disturbed kids.

Wow. Your story ... Well, thanks for making me glad I didn't have to be on the parent end of THAT conversation! Although, there is still time for one of my guys to do something like that.

She said the teacher just told her when she picked me up, and could barely get through the story because she was laughing so hard.

things i never thought i would say (to 17 yr olds):

"no indoor water fights"

"no, i don't think you should drink the bottle of bubbles"

"egg shells are not edible"

"please don't throw the knives"

"yes, you can probably fit inside the sink. no, we can't turn it into a hot tub."

"stop throwing spaghetti on the ceiling" (that one was just yesterday)

Good luck on your 20 miler tomorrow. No book licking please lol
