Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

We are back from Trek.  And we survived!  I was very surprised at how wonderful an experience it was.  I guess it was the element of the unknown and being dirty for several days that made me hesitant.  I'm very glad I went and have a greater appreciation for our pioneer heritage.

I did walk a lot (12 miles on day 2), but there was no stretching going on!  I can feel that I'm very stiff and creaky and that is how my run went this morning.  Stretching is on the top of the "to-do" list all week.

One set before and after run:

walking lunges

single leg hamstring lift

squats

side to side lunges

plank

Long stretch and foam roll and baseball

Another track Tuesday!  After today, I'm determined to find a buddy to do these workouts.  I need someone to push me.

2 mile wam up

Last Week          Today

400-1:35             400-1:38

400-1:34              800-3:21

800-3:27              400- 1:37

400-1:32              800-3:24

400-1:34              400-1:33

I was all over the place today.  I definitely ran my 800's faster, but my 400's were a lot slower than last time.  I really dislike those 800's......they are just  plain hard and make me want to poop my pants (sorry for the TMI).

I'm learning I get a bit more comfortable with th uncomfortable.  I will try again next week.

I really struggled with mojo this morning and the "shut-eye" won. I didn't start the run until almost 4:00pm and took a lot of physical effort to just walk down to the basement. I felt alright during the run. Mind over matter today.

During my last marathon training cycle, I felt that "fire" (for lack of a better term) all the time. I was so motivated.  I knew that if I worked hard enough I would get my BQ at Ogden. But that didn't happen.

This training cycle, I've done all my workouts, and hit my miles. But hardly any fire. I'm not even sure I'll be able to get any benchmark races before a fall marathon. I guess what I'm trying to spit out.....I'm not feeling that pressure. Heck....I don't even know what race I'm doing. I'm even considering not wearing my watch on race day.  I have no idea what is in store.  Maybe I'm finding balance.  Or just rambling because I'm tired :)

1 set before and 1 set after run

walking lunges

single leg hamstring lifts

squats

side to side lunges

For the love....my kids need to go to bed.  I can't handle this staying up all night and having to get up early to run.  But we did have a lot of fun shooting off fireworks last night.....lots of fireworks!

Those MP miles today felt a bit too hard.  I need to do more of those.  18 miles tomorrow....hopefully there will be cloud cover!

Provo River Trail

I met Smooth, Karen, Collette, and Leslie at the PRT this morning.  Oh my...what a fun group of ladies.  It was fun to laugh, chat and just enjoy a slow run in the shade.  There was even a Josse and Ericka sighting!  My legs felt great except for the whopper of a blister on the bottom of my foot.

We soaked in the river for a long time after.....it felt so wonderful!

I refueled at Chipotle and bought a few new running clothes.  Great day!
