Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

This was a mighty slow run! I think my first two miles were a 10:43/mm. I couldn't move any faster than that :). I finally got the pace down to 10/mm. My calves loosened up a bitt by the end of the run, but a still tight. Everything feels a bit creaky :)

Lots of stretching and foam rolling.

We worked in our yard all night. It always feels good to do the spring clean up!

Another slow run on the home treadmill.  Less soreness today and hopefully it will continue to go away.

Quick stretch and foam roll

Early morning on the home TM. I was not interested in running in the wind and rain this morning. Another slow run-that is going to be the plan for the rest of the week. My calves and all other niggles are really feeling better.

I soaked my lower legs in the kitchen sink this morning with ice. Brrr...it really helped.

After looking at Saturday's rainy forecast, I decided to do my long run today. One of my main goals for this run was to keep it slower. I raced hard last weekend and had already run a lot if miles this week. I wanted to be safe and not stupid.

As I started my run, the iPod that has my audiobook froze. I didn't want to take the time to mess with it. I was grateful I also grabbed my small shuffle. So I listened to music the whole way. I was really looking forward to my new book.

My first 11 miles were great. I ran all the way to Orem....that's a long ways to go :). I was super excited to see the water fountains turned on. I also enjoyed seeing the various blooming orchards, large gardens, chicken coops, and blooming lilac bushes. AF, PG, Lindon and Orem residents along the canal do a good job in those areas!

When I turned around, I started to struggle. I had 6 miles (mile 17) till my bathroom landmark and my body was starting to hurt. I finally got to the bathroom (5 miles till home) and my times started to slow way down. It was certainly a mental battle.

The wind started going crazy during the last 3 miles and I had dirt/sand pelting me sideways in the face. It wasn't fun.

I got home and laid on my bedroom floor for awhile and tried to convince myself that run was fun. As I was getting my ice bath ready, I started to cry in the bathroom to my husband. "I don't think I can run a marathon". My episode only lasted 5 minutes and I'm already feeling better about life. I've got 3 weeks to get my mental state back on track.

Time to taper.

5 really slow shake out miles on the home TM. Hips and tops of my feet are still a bit sore from yesterday, but everything else feels good.

Lots of foam rolling

I'm taking tomorrow off and will probably cross train on Monday.
