11 miles

1 warmup, 8 @ 7:36, 2 cooldown with some hills.

** Today's run seemed overly hard. I am very tired and am worried that I might be getting sick. I was dripping buckets of sweat, my tummy hurt a bit, and my legs felt like lead. Zero pep. More concerning is why I didn't stop and scrap the run, or at least slow down. I think it is because with only running 3.5 days a week missing one run seems catastrophic and I feel like I need to make the most of each one. I know, a little dramatic, but that is what my brain was telling me. Stupid brain.

** I need to find a way to get more sleep. I can tell that my body is hungry for it.

** I am going to drink a bunch of soda pop today. I know that it is bad for me but I need something!!! :) :) :)

(What's worse: diet soda or candy?)

Killer. Hopefully you can focus on making it to your nice lunch tomorrow.

From MrsFIT on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 12:06:52 from 205.127.241.18

I think candy is worse. At least with diet soda you don't have to feel guilty about all those calories you consumed!

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 12:09:08 from 66.239.250.209

Nice job getting 11 miles, even though you weren't feeling it today. Go ahead and drink all the diet soda you want. I also think you deserve some candy too. I don't think either one is bad in moderation.

From jun on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 12:15:19 from 66.239.250.209

Um, yeah. Soda and candy go together. Don't short-change yourself. You earned it.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 12:19:43 from 174.23.239.148

SSF ~ You are running on EMPTY!!! Listen to what you're telling yourself. Why are you pushing yourself so hard? Your body needs rest in order to "process" the hard work you've done. That is the only way to improve, not pushing to the limit on every single run. If you don't get enough sleep, it doesn't matter if you run every day or 3.5 days. I am going to sound like a mother: stay away from soda or candy. Hydrate with better fluids. I get the feeling you're not eating enough to fuel your workout and daily activities. Please please please take care of yourself.

Your run today would have killed me. You are a HARDCORE DIEHARD STUBBORN SPEED DEMON! It's a good thing I still love you!

From DonGardinero on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 14:30:34 from 75.162.101.84

Teena Marie, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm completely burned out.

From Kathie on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 15:32:18 from 63.248.105.188

Sometimes my leg are dead on Thursdays just because it is the end of the week. Only you can evaluate if they are on the brink of injury or not. I am with smooth eat some good food, take a 20 minute power nap and you will be ready to run again on Saturday.

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 17:00:01 from 71.219.89.82

CANDY----it has calories! Wait, you can use the calories, EAT CANDY!!!

I am a little worried about your last two weeks and the SPEED!! I so do not want you to get hurt and you are running so dang fast all of the time. Then again, you are a fast runner and you are good at it. It is hard to give anyone advice because I think we all train so differently. I could never do what you do, NEVER! I am feeling dead on just the few fast miles I have done, I would have keeled over for sure with your workout today, actually, I would have already been dead from your Tuesday workout.

Take it easy, pushing too hard will make you get sick, this I know!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 17:02:06 from 71.219.89.82

I just read Smooth's comments, looks like we would both be dead.

Have you ever tried Children's Benadryl? On the nights that I take it, I sleep pretty well. It is good stuff and it will get the job done when you are so burnt out you can not sleep.

Okay, I think i am done commenting now. Take care of yourself, get some rest and some GOOD food and some junk food!

From Andy on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 18:43:49 from 198.60.114.178

You are running too fast on too many runs. You ran 8 miles 20 seconds/mile faster than MP today after a great speed workout 2 days ago. Only worry about the pace on your speed days. Not that this means anything but my marathon pace is 6:50/mile and I rarely run below 7:30/mile. I know you want to make your workouts count but this is the mentality that has gotten you injured in the past.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 21:37:52 from 174.52.45.85

What would I do without all of you?? I am so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life.

Fyi, I had some diet soda and a little bit of candy, but LOTS of healthy food as well! :)

Smooth and Andy ... my voices of reason: you are right!!! I will only push myself that hard one day a week. It is far too close to game day. Hit me in the head with a 2 x 4 if you have to. I love and appreciate the "no sugar coating it" way you call me on my foolishness. Thank you!!!

From TBarlow on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 22:32:45 from 216.194.124.36

Make sure to have fun while you run!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 22:35:13 from 71.219.89.82

Hey, hey, hey!!! I said the same thing!!! ;o)

From Kathie on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 22:48:57 from 63.248.105.188

Yes but did you take the power nap?

From Teena Marie on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 23:40:02 from 174.52.45.85

Oh yes ... Kelli, you are also my voice of reason!!! :)

Kathie -- No power nap. I could sleep like a baby if I could find the time to sleep. In 3 months I will make up for my lost sleep now! ;)

From RAD on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 00:33:24 from 67.172.229.125

Teena you must be a machine! Seriously, simply a machine!!

From vinh on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 08:03:18 from 75.77.22.187

Great workout Teena! Hope you feel better!

From Rhett on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 11:46:14 from 74.32.219.217

Andy is always so wise. I also never come close to mp unless I am specifically running at tempo pace, mp, or speed work.

How exactly do you run 0.5 days? Either you run on the day or you don't?

From Teena Marie on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 13:02:28 from 155.99.200.165

Thanks Rachel and Vinh!!!

Rhett, I am laughing. I know I know I know. But on Fridays I only run 3 or 4 slow miles ... so I just count it as a half of a day! :)

From RivertonPaul on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 13:05:15 from 67.42.27.114

Have fun at lunch with the POP-U-LAR crowd. :)

From Snoqualmie Ridge Runner on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 14:27:21 from 76.22.10.204

Nice Tempo run! Do yourself and your family a favor and go to bed early tonight(Friday) and sleep in a bit tomorrow!!

From Lyman on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 15:46:28 from 170.135.241.46

11 mile run with 8 @ 7:36 and some hills is a very tough run. You should feel worn out, that run would of kicked my backside! Hope you get some rest, you are doing great:)

From Teena Marie on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 18:42:13 from 174.52.45.85

Paul -- You mean the "Cool, fun, tell the same stories over and over again, try to fix Andy up with my sis, crowd!" Glad you were part of it today -- it was so much fun having you there! You know that everyone is invited! The more the merrier!!! :)

Jeff -- Will do!!! :)

Lyman -- How are you feeling? I read your blog. How was the doc's? That run DID kick my trash! I won't be doing it again anytime soon. :)

From Andy on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 19:27:58 from 198.60.114.178

I would hate to be the one to ruin your perfect record.

From Brent on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 21:04:14 from 76.8.201.223

T NA NA - Put candy in the soda pop and drink that along with Andy's advice.
