10k in 90% humidity... bowl of ick!

We (David and I) showed up to the Del Rio park and registered for the 10k.  I was proud of David for doing the 10k today and not the 5k, like he usually opts for.  $40 for both of us to register day of is not a wallet buster.  Thank goodness these races in Del Rio are cheap.

One of our friend's wanted to take some photos of us before the race.  Kind of odd, but we went with it and I hope he got some good shots of us running around.  I always feel really strange when I get photos in running clothes.  I just feel half dressed or something.  David and I kind of made a warm up out of the photo session thingy...

We lined up to run, I glanced around and I saw one possible female threat to my race experience.  My goal for the race was to beat my time from last year (46:XX).  We were off and sweat dripped down my brow within the first half mile.  I kept with two teenage boys and they kept looking back at me.  I would catch one and he would sprint each time I caught up to him.  Annoying.  Kept my pace pretty easy the first couple miles because there were going up and down some pretty big hills.

Mile 3 I finally passed Jr #1, I never caught Jr #2, but I kept with him.   There were three drink stops during the race.  Each stop was fully supplied with warm water.  At least they had water, right?  Mile 4 of that race purely sucked,  Really, sucked the life out of me.  It's a slow, long mile into a head wind and it goes up and up.  Stink.  I was happy when that mile was over.

The rest of the race was fine until another slight uphill half mile push into the finish.  I was 5th overall and the 1st woman.  I felt SOLID about my performance and PR'd my last year's time by 2 minutes.  I will take that with a smile.  Second place lady came in at 47 min something.  I am going to run a long run with her next week!  Super happy I have someone to run with.

David was 2nd place with a time of 39:20.  He trains very minimal.  I mean like 20-30(max) miles a week.  Just not fair but still happy for him.

Fantastic race Bec! Wow that is so exciting to see the progress you have made. Congratulations!

That husband of yours is no doubt a maniac. Geez I'm jealous but agree that it is completely awesome.
