There was suppose to be a base 5k today...

We woke up this morning and it was foggy out.  We got to the gym to register for the 5k and no one was sitting at the table.  They told us inside the gym they might cancel the race because so far it was only us two that had shown up.  We went to the bathroom and other runners had started accumulating.  They then told us that since it was foggy, the visibility was poor, so they ended up canceling the race.  REALLY?? No one was surprised that they canceled their poor advertised free race.  Conditions were ideal for running.

David amd I ran the course as well as a father son duo.  Base races really are lame.  The people in charge have probably never have ran a step in their lives so they don't know how to put on decent races.  At least they still put together some races.

David and I ran the course twice and then added two miles.  I ran three miles on the TM and one mile home totaling twelve.

Big letdown, sorry about the cancelled race, I don't think I have ever seen that. At least you got some good miles in.

I thought the racing scene was bad here, but you've had some poor experiences! I think on base you sometimes just get folks trying to organize a race as a leadership bullet for their EPR/OPR, and they could care less about how it actually goes.

Flatlander,

These people on base in charge of the 5Ks could honestly care less. They find any reason to cancel.

Joe,

I don't know what to do about the race situation here. I don't want to be the lady that gripes about everything but how can I get across my frustrations to them? You are exactly correct about the EPR/OPR part. They could care less if people actually show up to their races.
