oop! we miscalculated the distance a bit on our third lap, so ended up doing 21.5 miles instead of 20 on this, my last LSR before the big day on the 22nd. We purposely went nice and slow so clocked 3.31.
It was pretty hard going, but I'm confident I can string it out on a flatter course and get round the marathon. And this was definitely a slow pace so my time will be 4:00 to 4:15 on the day, I would guess (hopefully the former!!)
it is taper from here - hooray | | Comments(1) |

quite surprised how straightforward today was after the tough 21.5 on Sunday. Bounced round my normal route (5.3 miles) with a spring in my step (well as springy as I ever get).
Not particularly fast, but felt comfortable and relaxed.

Last significant run before the big day. Out in the evening sunshine. Still feeling the after effects of a busy weekend (food, beer (not in excess!)) but not too bad. Second half better than the first really. About 1hr 50.
Most concerned at this point with not picking up any aches and pains, and just getting round while maintaining fitness. Only 12 days to GO!!! | | Add Comment |

starting to get to the point where one asks - "why am I doing this?"
with 11 days to go the tension is getting too much and I just want done with it.
I have about 29 miles to do over the next few days before the race on the 22nd. Part of me wants it over, part of me wonders what I will do when it is over!!
4 easy miles round the park as per my taper programme. | | Add Comment |

Was Sian's birthday party this afternoon so have had the odd mouthful of battenburg cake and a beer, so the run was OK considering. It feels quite odd doing all these short runs after doing so many long long runs during the heavy part of the schedule.
43 mins I think.

Last week now. Was my birthday yesterday, plus I felt slightly unwell so skipped a day. Jogged 7.5 today and it was OK, although too hot and sunny after all my training in the cold and wind!!
7 days to go so need to shake this slight feeling of unwellness...i'm sure it is part nerves, but i definitely have a slightly woozy head.
rest tomorrow then run Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat probably (very short ones though to keep ticking over)...
then the big day :) | | Add Comment |

Well - on the hottest day of the year so far I managed to get round.
4:37:23 - which i count as sub 4:30 with the delays at the start...
To you Utah guys you'll laugh at the temperatures I'm sure, but when I've been training in snow, rain and wind it is a big shock to the system running in the heat. Temperature was 23 degrees so in the sun I'm sure it was heading for 30 degrees (felt like 40!)
First 17-18 miles were comfortable and was averaging sub 10, near 9 having been severely held up in the first two miles (just with the volume of people), but the last 8 was just survival. Thankfully it clouded up for the last 4 miles so the heat wasn't as bad.
Enjoyed a lot of it but am now glad it is over.
