Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

It's getting hot!  It's 7:00 pm, and it's in the low 80s right now, so it was probably in the high 80s when I started my run.  Total time was 49:49, average pace 9:55.  I'm glad the Garmin worked this time: now I know how fit (or unfit) I am after several weeks of laziness.

Normally I would not run on a Sunday, but I went to the mall this afternoon to look for some casual summer weekend pants.  In four separate stores, not a single thing in my size fit!  I refuse to succumb to the bigger size, so I didn't buy anything (except shoes and shirts, which still fit OK).  So, until I lose weight, I will either be (1) very hot, or (2) not able to breathe, and I will definitely be a slow runner.

Goal for the week: run 20+ miles, lose 1-2 pounds.

Well, that was rough.  It was 96 degrees when I started and 90 degrees when I finished.  I realized on the run that I have hardly eaten any carbs today, except for fruit, so that was another reason that I was feeling so sluggish.  I actually had to alternate running and walking on the way back.  I would walk one song, run one song ,etc.  Not fun...

Average pace was 10:10 for the first 2.5 miles and 12:51 for the last 2.5 miles.  Yikes!

The good news: I am already down 2.5 pounds from yesterday.  That probably just means I was retaining water or something from the weekend, but I'll take it!

Today I fueled much better throughout the day, so the run wasn't quite so difficult as the other day.  It was also much cooler: 83 degrees.  I had to haul booty at the end to average under 10:00 pace, though.  I have my work cut out for me!

Total time was 49:43, average 9:56 pace.

I couldn't sleep at all last night, so I slept in this morning and skipped the group run, which would have been fun (and much cooler!).  I think it was already close to 80 degrees when I headed out, but fortunately most of my run was in the shade.  The path was very busy today.

Total time was 54:18, average 9:45 pace.  My heart rate slowed to 120 within 5 minutes, so that was a good sign.  I lost 7 pounds this week, but I think most of it was water weight.  I hope so, because my weight at the beginning of the week was a number I had never seen on the scale!  And because it's impossible to lose 7 pounds in one week without starving yourself, which I did not do.
