Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

I actually have no idea how far I went, because the Garmin died before I started.  I went to Dreamy Draw Park planning to run in the foothills.  Silly plan, because I can barely eke out 3 miles these days.  But it is a beautiful place, so I wanted to go for it.  It basically turned into a hard hike with some jogging.

I used to run at this park all the time.  Today I found a new trail that goes up and around a mountain: STEEP and ROCKY with lots of switchbacks.  It was spectacular and beautfiul, and I got a good workout.

Then I came home and made an omelette-YUM!

I LOVE this weather!  I felt more energized on my run than I have felt in a long time.  Of course, I haven't run much in a long time either...

I ran with my husband.  He is still in recovery mode from his stress fracture, so we had to walk a bit.  It was a beautiful morning.  It is so nice when you can sleep in, go running at 9:00, and the weather is still nice!

It's getting colder out!  It was definitely below 60 on my run tonight.  We got about 5 minutes of heavy rain and hail this afternoon, which cooled things off and stirred up the dust.  It was still windy when I ran, which created a lot of creepy shadows!  I felt good, though.  One day at a time...

Yeah!!  I met a friend for a run.  She is semi-new to running, and we have run 3-4 miles together in the past.  Well, tonight she wanted to do 6 miles.  She is training for her first marathon.  So, I drove to meet her, we ran to my house, had a quick Gatorade break, and ran back.  The Garmin completely died, so I have no idea what our pace was, but I know it was slower than 10:00.  I don't care, though, because I had not done more than 3 in a LONG time! And we had a great time chatting and catching up!  Doesn't get any better than that...

Tonight I ran with my same friend from the other night and another friend (guy and girl).  We talked about women's issues in the workplace and the perception of crying at work.  We made another Gatorade pit stop at my house at mile 3.  I accidentally locked my husband out, so he came and found us on the bike, and I gave him my key.  Oops!

My Garmin is still dead, so I don't know our pace, but it was definitely faster than the other night.  I'm getting blisters again.  I hope they go away soon.  The weather was perfect.

I used the Garmin for the first time in ages, and it died at 3.56 miles.   It's probably a good thing, because I was going so horrifically slow that I'd rather just forget about it.  I felt good though.  The weather was nice.  My blisters are back with a vengeance.  Maybe I'll do a 5k this weekend.

I slept in and then ran with my husband for about a mile.  Then he went ahead.  About the 5k this morning, it was for kids only.  I wouldn't have blended in very well, and I probably would have come in last.

Average pace was 10:09.  I "hauled" for the last half-mile or so, but was only going at a 9:40 pace.  I have my work cut out for me.  I'm not going to increase my mileage next week.  I'll let my body re-adapt to the mileage.

I dragged my husband on the same hike I went on a  few weeks ago.  That was a huge sacrifice for him, because (1) he doesn't like to hike; and (2) his beloved Arizona Cardinals began playing at 2:00, so he missed the first hour of the game.  The hike is very steep, and my husband is now determined to take his mountain bike up there and get a "real" workout.

I was not nearly as tired as I was the last time I did this hike, which was very encouraging.  We took some cool pictures.  I won't be able to run again until Wednesday.

I ran with my friends again tonight.  I actually took the Garmin this time, and we averaged 11:09.  It felt very easy, and I felt strong at the end.  It's coming back, slowly but surely.  We're running 6 miles again tomorrow night, and I might actually do 10 miles with her on Saturday!  I don't know how that's going to go...

I ran with my girlfriend again.  We had our now-customary Gatorade pit stop at my house.  We ran 2 seconds per mile faster than we did last night (11:07).  She roped me into running 10 miles with her on Saturday!  That will be interesting...

Wow, I cannot believe I ran 11 miles.  The plan was ten, which I was very hesitant about, but we tacked on an extra mile.  I ran with a friend, and then another friend met up with us about 4 miles into the run.  We sped up after we met her.  Our average pace was 10:51.  I still have a long way to go, but I am encouraged by the fact that I was able to do 11 miles without dying.  Now I just need to get back below 10:00 pace.  I am going to be SO sore tomorrow.  We had a good breakfast at Paradise Bakery when we finished.

I love love LOVE this weather!  It makes running a no-brainer.  I ran with my friend again.  We have been running about the same pace lately, and tonight it felt much easier.  I will probably be on my own tomorrow night, so I'll see how my pace is when I'm running alone.  I am kind of thinking about doing a Turkey Trot on Thursday morning, but it will depend on a lot of things: the weather, for one, and mainly the fact that I will be recovering from a night of COLDPLAY!

I just went running...and listened to Guns n Roses...in the cold November rain!  It wasn't really that cold though.  It was my first run by myself in a while, so I decided to find out what pace I'm truly at right now.  I ran 49:33, a 9:55 average.  At this point, I'm totally fine with that.

The leaves are starting to turn, and it was awesome running in the daytime.  Now I'm off to Coldplay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
