I posted this on the forum, but wanted everyone to weigh in. I believe one thing which distinguishes
well run marathons is a well organized starting location. In addition
to plenty of port-a-potties, (I know this is semi-graphic) don't you think a marathon would benefit greatly from having at least one of those tented portable urinals so
that men just wishing to urinate can quickly get in line for the urinal
which moves remarkably well when nobody has to stop take care of other
business. This would also help prevent the last minute going anywhere frenzy and would speed up the
port-a-potty lines for the women if there are fewer men having to stand
in them.
Usually found at public events, portable urinal blocks provide fast and
cost effective facilities for male use. These units are ideal for
larger events where queuing for standard units can become a problem.
Units are fitted with side screens as standard for extra privacy.
But why stop there? This lead to another epiphany, for what its worth, although it may be difficult
to enforce, wouldn't it be convenient if a number of the port-a-potties were designated for
urination only? I know I could better cope with standing in line if knew I was in a line that would not stall, thereby eliminating much of the the
aggravation of wondering whether I had picked a "slow" line and guessing who in front of me was going to take forever. (Come on, who hasn't been aggravated by this, admit it.)
Wouldn't it be great knowing you were in line where this was enforced?

| Got to College Station, TX last night. Nice small airport. I told the cabbie, 60 something year-old talkative woman, to take me to the Hampton Inn and gave her the address. She proceeded to take me on a nice little ride to the hotel. I paid her, got out and went in for my reservation. New, friendly girl at the counter was very confused. Manager, Ron, came over and said with a pleasant smile, "well that's because his reservation is for the other Hampton Inn." I would have glady stayed at that hotel, but the deposition I'm involved in today is at the other one. Well, Ron just said, I'll drive you over to the other one, which he did. The other Hampton where I ended up staying was very nice, but it was quite isolated. The closest food establishment to it was a Mexican restaurant a little ways away, but I didn't want to walk even that far in the rain storm. So I ended up ordering a pizza, and at the whole dang thing. So much for a run last night.
This morning, I ran on treadmill at the hotel in College Station. I'm basing the distance on time and effort. I run often enough on treadmills to have a pretty good feel when a treadmill's calibration is way off. 90 minutes later the treadmill indicated I had run 13, but there was no way I had run that far, so Ill just log an easy 10. | Comments(6) |
