I posted this on the forum, but wanted everyone to weigh in.  I believe one thing which distinguishes well run marathons is a well organized starting location.  In addition to plenty of port-a-potties, (I know this is semi-graphic) don't you think a marathon would benefit greatly from having at least one of those tented portable urinals so that men just wishing to urinate can quickly get in line for the urinal which moves remarkably well when nobody has to stop take care of other business. This would also help prevent the last minute going anywhere frenzy and would speed up the port-a-potty lines for the women if there are fewer men having to stand in them.

Usually found at public events, portable urinal blocks provide fast and cost effective facilities for male use. These units are ideal for larger events where queuing for standard units can become a problem. Units are fitted with side screens as standard for extra privacy.

But why stop there?  This lead to another epiphany, for what its worth, although it may be difficult to enforce, wouldn't it be convenient if a number of the port-a-potties were designated for urination only?   I know I could better cope with standing in line if knew I was in a line that would not stall, thereby eliminating much of the the aggravation of wondering whether I had picked a "slow" line and guessing who in front of me was going to take forever.  (Come on, who hasn't been aggravated by this, admit it.)

Wouldn't it be great knowing you were in line where this was enforced?

I thought that is what the bushes are for?

They had these at the Indianapolis Marathon and it was very beneficial.

Thanks for the laugh Paul. It was a good way to end a very hectic work day.

Josse, No "no poop line" access for you.

Jeff, I totally agree.

Rhett, This is a serious matter. :) Like Jeff commented, they are seriously helpful.

Genius...line about 10 of those up end to end, and you'll feel like you're at a football game at halftime. Sweet idea!

Yeah Rhett. Don't let the creative pictures throw you off from what the real issue is here. Nothing's worse than watching three people in the line next to you get to do their business before you.

This is a great idea! But in all fairness, women should be allowed to use them too, as long as they can be quick about their business.

The Salt lake marathon had a tent of sorts like this at the start line a couple of years back and it worked GREAT. I don't know what happened to it the last few years.

I really do think this would be a great thing:)

Thanks for catching those JD. Don't think I didn't see them.

From JD on Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 19:50:21 from 209.183.51.43

Dang! The least you could do is PM me and let me know, I almost didn't catch them.

Seriously, I would like to live inside your brain for a day!!!

That said, you are a genius!!!!!! I am one of those people that only has to pee, the problem is that I have to go like 3 times before a race (5 kids=very weak bladder, especially when nervous). So, I think your plan is super duper smart! I would even volunteer to enforce the "no pooping" potties!!!!
