I did a nice easy run this morning, getting ready for tomorrows Boston simulation 23 miler.  During the last mile of my 5 mile run I did a 3 minute all out sprint that has left my lungs sore for a few hours.  I do that to kick off my carb loading following the Aussie Carb Loading Plan.  Then I started my high glycemic index carb loading as soon as I got home with a bowl of mashed potatos.  Now that I'm doing the whole foods thing, it is not quite as fun to carb load.  No more PopTarts, cereal bars, or other processed foods, so I'm sticking with baked potatos, mashed potatos from my potato pearls in my food storage (yum), beagles, white breads (which I don't usually eat), and plain Chex (rice and corn mixture) cereal.  I may mix in a bit of pasta tonight as well.

This will be my first long run of this training cycle that I actually did any carb loading for.  Hopefully I'll feel great tomorrow.  I'm going to try and do as well as Smooth did in simulating a Boston course and I think I will even take GUs every 4 miles like I do in the marathon.

Sounds like a good plan. Do you like sweet potato? I LOV'EM! Be sure to eat the last meal (breakfast) same time, same thing as in the marathon. Hope the weather co-operates for you in the morning. GOOD LUCK and enjoy your Boston simulator 23 miler. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Do you really eat beagles? Mine just died a few months ago and had I known that was part of your diet I would have sent her to you. Good luck with your long run tomorrow.

They are best deep fried Andy and since I'm not currently eating fried foods, I guess I'll have to eat bagels instead of beagles this time.

Smooth, I love sweet potatos. May I'll have to pick one up at the store and bake it tonight.

Way to go you got me hooked on pop tarts and now you don't eat them any more? Oh well I love potato pearls, just add garlic salt and cheese!

Thought the whole beagle thing was really funny!

Right on Rhett. I cant wait to see how this run goes man. Sounds like you have found a great carbo load that really works for you. To bad it sounds like you dont do it all that often. But I will have to try it on my 16+ runs.

Good luck on your run tomorrow, Rhett. You are so focused, you're putting me to shame.

The whole beagle/bagle thing had me laughing hard. Fun stuff!!!

ok - so what is a potato pearl?

From Rhett on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 13:26:01 from 170.215.58.122

Tim, potato pearls are like dehydarated potato flakes, but they are in tiny little balls instead of flakes and the are way yummier and more like real mashed potatos. I just eat them plain and I love them.

How was your 23 miler, Rhett?

From Rhett on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 14:29:03 from 170.215.58.122

It went more than great Dale. Thanks for asking. I'm at work and don't have my Garmin so I'm waiting till I get home to post a good report, but I posted a quick review of it over on the forum if you want a sneak peak.

Glad to hear it went well. I'll check it out.
