No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

5:00am  Matthew 22 - Mark 6

Blessed with another dry morning! This run felt pretty easy, but my heart rate was way up for some reason, 171. I averaged 164 on my long run Friday at nearly the same pace. It must be nerves. One more solid run tomorrow and then a super easy 6-8 miles in Central Park on Friday.

I watched Fire On The Track this weekend and all 3.5 hours of extras. There are some great interviews with Steve's teammates, coaches, and friends. If you haven't seen this documentary, you should check it out. It is so much better than the other movies about Steve Prefontaine. I also bought Born To Run to read on the plane Wednesday. We're staying with a friend in Newton that just ran Copper Canyon last month. I'm really looking forward to reading the book and hearing all about Chuck's adventure in Mexico. This is going to be such an awesome trip!

5:00am Mark 7 - Luke 1

Calm, cool and frosty out today. I got harassed by an angry motorist during mile 5. I'm not sure what he was yelling at me for, all I could make out were a few cuss words. He slowed down to my speed about 40 or 50 feet in front of me to share his thoughts after honking his horn at me and eventually drove away as I kept running toward him. I meant to stay at MP or slower today, but I had trouble slowing down after my little adrenaline rush. Thanks for the boost stranger :)

New York 10am Luke 2-14

I had a great run through Central Park. Lots of cool stuff there, a zoo, trails, statues, trees, I almost forgot where I was for a while. Going to see the falafel nazi for lunch now.

5 mile fun run with the author of Born to Run- Chris McDougall, and Ultramarathoner Scott Jurek. Fun, but so cold! We weren't going fast enough to generate any body heat. Great conversation at such a casual pace though. I'm actually considering barefoot running for the first time.
