No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

9:00am w00t! another PR! More details later...

Update: I had no idea what to expect today after taking most of the month off of running. I thought maybe if I was lucky, I might be able to finish the race at around a 7:15 pace... My calf didn't bother me at all during the race and seems to be almost back to normal now, but I was still scared to push the pace until the last mile or two. During the seventh mile the first place female passed me and I felt the need to try a little harder. We ran side by side for most of miles 8 and 9, but once she dropped back a little I kind of lost my incentive with nobody left in reach. The closest runner was at least a few hundred yards ahead and he cut the corner at the library to pass the guy in front of him. I had to leave right away so I didn't stay for awards, but I was curious if he placed after taking a short cut. I mustered up a little kick at the end and finished with a surprisingly big negative split(32:19/31:27) and found out later that I placed 2nd in my division. I am feeling better about Boston after this even though my foot is still giving me grief. Hopefully the treatment for this stupid neuroma will work so I'll be able to get some long runs in and get back on track for the big event. So, what's the right thing to do when you see somebody cheat in a race? Do you tell or just worry about your own race and let it go?

YEAH!!!! All those cross-training marathon sessions paid off!

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 16:21:26 from 24.10.248.6

This is definitely the day for 15k's looking at the race reports.

Congratulations on bringing the time down yet again. I know it feels good.

Way to go today Trap! I'm glad you came out and were able to get in a good time, in spite of all the fun injury challenges and cross-training bit you've been doing. Hopefully this will be encouraging for you leading up to the big BM!

From Laputka on Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 19:52:14 from 98.202.142.68

Congratulations! Calf feeling better?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 21:21:44 from 76.121.76.165

Nicole - I am really glad I gutted out those big sessions at the Y. I'm sure they helped!

Rob - Thanks. I really didn't think I had another PR in me after all the time off!

Scott - I laughed when I read "BM". I have been convinced that my performance in Boston was going to resemble a BM. Now I'm thinking it might not be so bad :)

Laputka - Yes! Much better!

From Burt on Sun, Feb 27, 2011 at 21:21:46 from 72.223.90.79

Awesome Mike! Where did this come from??? You ain't injured. You're playing rope-a-dope.

As for the cheater, did the guy he passed not notice? I think you should tattle anonymously. That way they can strip him of his award, and he'll think twice about doing it again.

From Dan on Sun, Feb 27, 2011 at 21:22:53 from 24.209.83.20

Congrats man!! I am happy your calf is doing better!

From april27 on Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 18:38:15 from 99.188.251.180

What a cheater! What is the point of that?

I'm glad you placed! And if this is you 'injured'...I am JEALOUS!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 23:37:37 from 76.121.76.165

Burt - I'm a runner not a boxer. I left right after the race so I'm not sure if anything happened to the cheater.

Dan - Thanks, me too!

April - Honest, I'm hurtin' for certain. Don't be jealous :)
