No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

21 miles in 77min, HR 175

I rode out to Dupont and back today. There were lots of bikes on the road including one idiot riding on the left side. Be safe out there and don't be monkeyin' around. Nobody wants to be a floog.

Am I the only one who watched the whole thing :-) I have some neighbors who ride on the wrong side of the road too!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jul 09, 2012 at 11:15:34 from 174.253.196.80

I see so many cyclists ignoring the rules of the road it's no wonder that drivers get so irriatated with them. Cyclists get all high and mighty about their rights to the road yet most of them consistently run stop signs/lights, fail to signal, ride against traffic, etc.

The only thing I like less than the drivers that hate me being on the road are the snobby, pompous, self-centered, whiney, monkey @ss scofflaw cyclists that cause drivers to hate us all. Can you tell I have some strong feelings about this issue? I might need some therapy :)

Do you fell better now?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jul 09, 2012 at 11:53:20 from 174.253.196.80

Yes, a little better. I was starting to sound like Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation. Can I just blame that on endorphin withdrawl?

Hi, my name is Mike and it's been 10 days since my last run...

From I Just Run on Mon, Jul 09, 2012 at 13:14:05 from 67.79.11.242

I was meaning to ask, was your HR really avg 175 while riding your bike? Mine is a max of about 180. No wonder you're so fast, I need some of those drugs :-)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jul 09, 2012 at 15:59:35 from 174.253.196.80

Yes my HR was really 175, my max was 205 the last time I checked. Who said anything about drugs?

From I Just Run on Mon, Jul 09, 2012 at 16:09:20 from 67.79.11.242

I'm saying it would take some really strong drugs to get my HR to that speed...:-) At 205 I would explode! It's really strange how different our bodies are and how they operate. I think you and I are very close in age and build. Hope I'm right because I don't want to offend you, I'm 52 and 155-160 lbs, 5'-9"...am I right?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jul 09, 2012 at 17:49:32 from 174.253.196.80

Pretty close, I'm 44, 5'10", 165.

I've been told that my avg training HR (170) is high, but I've seen it crack 200 more than once while racing. My heart probably just isn't very efficient and has to pump faster to move enough blood. That's what years of abuse and neglect like smoking, drinking, lack of exercise, etc will do for you. I never did anything even remotely healthy until I started running at 35.

I actually watched the whole thing. Where did you find this video? Was it really made back in the 50's or was it just made to look like it?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 07:22:31 from 174.253.193.68

Carl - I think it's a real training video from 1963.
