Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Had a huge chunk of flesh removed from my rear upper thigh yesterday. It was a re-excision of a mole that came back from the lab not looking pretty. The excision was 3 inches long 1 inch high and about 1.5 inches deep. So as not to pop any stitches I didn't do yoga this morning, stinks though because it's my favorite class all week :(

Hit the elliptical for 45 minutes on L6 resistance. A little easier, and not so much 'push' on the muscles. Total of 3 miles and 350 calories.

Grabbed my new book from the library "What to Say When you Talk to Yourself" So far I'm not really pulled into it...a lot of blah, blah, blah we've all heard before. I'll give it a few more chapters before I totally give it up!

Hit the TM (while reading) for another 45 minutes at 10% grade and 2.5 mph. The grade proved a 'stretch' for the excision as I stepped up so I took it down to 5, then slowly increased throughout the time ending again at 10 for about 5 minutes. Went long enough flat afterward (3.5mph) to round out to 2 miles total.

Felt good to get moving. The doc said to use pain as a gauge of what to do and when to stop. Pain was never any worse than normally, except the incline issue (or as uncomfortable as trying to sleep was!) so I made it easy, but it sure felt good to get out move!

Oh, as a side note just finished the book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". It was a GREAT book, I'd categorize it as historical fiction. A life story about a woman's life journey in China in the early 1800's - foot binding, marriage, raising children. Kind of a 'chick' book, but if you enjoy historical fiction like I do - wow, one of the best books I've read in a long time!

You get a pound of flesh removed and stitches, and still work out. You are an animal.

Incidentally, I read "What to Say When You Talk to Yourself" and it is a lot of blah blah all the way through but especially the first few chapters. I was ready to give it up after several chapters (maybe 3 or 4, I'm not sure), but then it got a little better and I read the rest of it. I don't care much for the writing (like I said, a lot of blah blah), but I think the self talk concept is valid. I'm working on getting up the guts to try self talk to help me get my weight back down. I've been out of control with food since Thanksgiving.

I can't believe you get a 3 inch incision and still manage to exercise that much. Great job as usual. I just read a good book called "The Christmas List" by Richard Paul Evans. I don't get a chance to read very often, but I read It on the plane back and forth to Hawaii.

Devine - itchy nee son she go roco - itchie hatchi couds you - may have the words spelled wrong - counting to ten in chinese. Chick flick books - secret life of bees was enough for couple of years, stick with the other side. Nice working out given the high hurdles of life.

Carolyn, you must've been the one that suggested it. I put it on hold forever ago and just got it. I'm at chapter 5, but I put it down to read runners world for the last 15 minutes I was so tired of the same things being said over and over different ways. Hard to go from a GREAT book to a blah book.

Nancy, the workout wasn't too hard - just long. Gotta get all the use I can out of a free 1.5 hours of day care :) Never read any Evans' books - heard they're all good though.

Brent, nice counting :) I can only go to five. The book just talked mostly about women's rituals, rites of passage and relationships. Other than that (hahaha) not much of a girly 'plot' or anything.

I put the book on hold, so I better like it or I will hold you accountable!

If I would've known you wanted it today, I had it in my car to return and I could've just given to you - STINK! :)

NO, I have a huge stack to get through. SO, I picked the copy that had the most holds on it, I hope it takes a few weeks!!!!!

WOW! You are the woman of NO EXCUSES! We need to start hanging out so that can rub off on me!!! I can't believe you did all of that after having chunk of flesh removed from your leg! You amaze me!

I wonder...if I'm already busy talking to myself, what voice is going to be guiding me to remember the things I'm supposed to say when I talk to myself? Too many voices in my head. And I usually can't make sense of them anyway because of the voice is always screaming in the background... it's the one I try to run away from....:-)

From Michelle on Fri, Feb 05, 2010 at 11:31:26 from 174.29.77.117

Great workout. You are so dedicated to get a long workout in every day, not matter what.

From RAD on Fri, Feb 05, 2010 at 17:27:04 from 67.172.229.125

Kelli, you'll enjoy it when you get it - PROMISE!

Emily, I just can't give up the 1.5 hrs of free day care :)

QP, yeah...I understand :) I thought I'd give it a try. I'm hoping that someday I can run fast enough to leave that screaming background voice on the side of the road and it'll never catch up!! So far I haven't done it :(

Michelle, getting away from the kids is always a good motivator! Plus, I have to eat...if I don't work out and I eat I'll gain 20 pounds!! :)
