Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Looking forward to miles this month and not a goose egg!! Speaking of...ultrasound went well it's a healthy baby....

Got up at 4:15 to get to the gym in Lehi by 5 for a muscle mix class. Great resistance/strengthening class, and cardio to boot! Spin class at 6. Good teacher, but was having technical difficulties with her ipod and it got rather annoying. Plus I felt she did too much recovery. Either way, it's always a sweat fest at spin.

Took the car to get a full detail (complimentary because they were mean to us!) and then went to the doc's by 9. A full day by 10 AM and I need a nap!!!

Oh, I was referred to this article by "see DANE run" that he wrote. It is a good one check it out at: http://www.blueridgeoutdoors.com/blogs/running-matters/how-far-is-this-marathon/

Note to self - sleep is more important than ever right now!

Yesterday kicked my trash and I was going to go to an early spin class again, but when I went to bed I felt feverish, sore throat and stuffy nose. I decided it would be best to sleep and get some energy back to feel better and not run myself into the ground (Sorry Becca!!)

After sleeping in I went to the gym for an hour and did the recumbent bike at 5% resistance and 15 miles (slow, but work).

Couple nights of decent sleep and I'm feeling decent again.

Boot camp for an hour and then since I've been a week with no hip pain I did a 30 min walk at 2.5 mph at a 10% grade. Good workout, but still looking forward to running! Finished 1.25 miles, I'm getting SO close I can wait to see if this bothers the hip at all this week so I can run next week!!!

Had a huge chunk of flesh removed from my rear upper thigh yesterday. It was a re-excision of a mole that came back from the lab not looking pretty. The excision was 3 inches long 1 inch high and about 1.5 inches deep. So as not to pop any stitches I didn't do yoga this morning, stinks though because it's my favorite class all week :(

Hit the elliptical for 45 minutes on L6 resistance. A little easier, and not so much 'push' on the muscles. Total of 3 miles and 350 calories.

Grabbed my new book from the library "What to Say When you Talk to Yourself" So far I'm not really pulled into it...a lot of blah, blah, blah we've all heard before. I'll give it a few more chapters before I totally give it up!

Hit the TM (while reading) for another 45 minutes at 10% grade and 2.5 mph. The grade proved a 'stretch' for the excision as I stepped up so I took it down to 5, then slowly increased throughout the time ending again at 10 for about 5 minutes. Went long enough flat afterward (3.5mph) to round out to 2 miles total.

Felt good to get moving. The doc said to use pain as a gauge of what to do and when to stop. Pain was never any worse than normally, except the incline issue (or as uncomfortable as trying to sleep was!) so I made it easy, but it sure felt good to get out move!

Oh, as a side note just finished the book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". It was a GREAT book, I'd categorize it as historical fiction. A life story about a woman's life journey in China in the early 1800's - foot binding, marriage, raising children. Kind of a 'chick' book, but if you enjoy historical fiction like I do - wow, one of the best books I've read in a long time!

Slept better last night, but weird dreams made it restless!

Short on time due to errands, favors and more running around today.

45 minutes on the elliptical - 3.1 miles on L6 (so a little faster than yesterday, but my incision felt better too).

30 minutes on the TM walking - 1.5 miles at 10% grade (no pain today in incision area), but I increased the speed a bit (3.3-3.8) today. Felt SO good to be walking, I wanted to run :) I will be good and wait my full week to make sure there is no threat of re-fracture though.

2.25 miles in 45 minutes at 10% grade walking on the TM.

90 minute spin class - who needs a shower when bathed in sweat? :)

45 minutes on the elliptical at a good (but not hard) level - didn't check stats before I stopped.

ITB whined during spin then screamed during elliptical. I beat it into submission! Hip still feeling fine - yay!!
