last year I won this race and was in better shape.  This year I ran this race almost three minutes slower and with less desire to push really hard.

It was cloudy and about 40'.  It started to sprinkle for the first couple miles.  The race started with a less than excited ready set go from the young youth comittee counil member.  Nobody shot out at the start of the race so I had hopes of winning.  A high school girl and another older man ran with me for the first couple miles.  Then it was just me and the girl the rest of the way.  I kept hoping she would also die off but no luck.  I looked back and could tell I had first place men wrapped up and the $50 prise so I wasn't willing to make my body suffer to much.  I decided to give it extra effort the last mile and picked up the pace from about 7:12 average the first 5 miles and dropped the sixth mile to 6:27.  It didn't work, and then she out-sprinted me to the end.  My old man legs don't have a sprinting gear any more.

After the race I found out she was totally deaf, and a great runner.

Darcie and Kenna ran the 5K race.  Darcie was somewhere over 30 minutes and Kenna loafed it with her counsin coming over 40 minutes.  Mariella and Brinlee came in around 26 minutes beating their dad.
