It was cloudy with a temp. of 45' at the starting line and just before the race it started to sprinkle.  It was fine for the first 6 miles then it started to rain.  It rained for about the next 6-8 miles then it was over for the rest of the race with a finish line temp of about 55'.

I did not jog before the race.  Just walked about a half mile and stretched out.  I started the race trying not to go to fast knowing that I always cramp up near the end of the race.  I hit the half way point at almost exactly were I'd planned, 90 minutes.  I was feeling good and getting my hopes up that maybe, just maybe, I could run all the way to the finish line.  At mile 17 I got a little knot in my left calf that was a different feeling than cramping up.  I felt it most the way in at different levels but it never effected the race.

At mile 21 I was really getting my hopes up, but I could tell that my legs were getting pounded.  I wanted to break lose with some 6:20 miles but I knew that would increase the odds of cramping.  At mile 23 my legs were definately letting me know that they were not going to hold out to much longer.  I had plenty of energy and mental toughness but not the legs to do it with.  I kept up the pace and it wasn't until mile 25.5 that my legs started shutting down and I had to slow down and do some funny shuffle type running.  There was a guy that was in my age division that I let pass me at mile 24 and was hoping to pass him at the end but I just had to be happy with a sub 3.

Eating:  I ate a homemade wheat bread sandwich and a half a banana 2hrs before the race.  I had a half a banana 5 minutes before the race.  At mile 9 I had a half a gel, mile 11 quarter banana, mile 15 half gel, mile 19 quarter banana, mile 24 quarter banana.  I had poweraid at all stations.

Huge respect - you bagged my goal time that I've been shooting for for about 3 years now. What kind of weekly mileage do you put in - over the course of how many weeks prior to the race?

Very nice run! I'm guessing it was you I was chatting with for a few minutes around mile 18ish. I was hoping to stay with you to the end, but just couldn't catch back up.

Great running Terry! Nice to see you avoiding a big wall. Did you carry your banana with you the whole way?
