Aaron and I took the kids to my Sister's house and went to lunch with my Grandma who has just moved into an assisted living home.  It was nice to visit with her (even if some of what she said was repetitive) and play cards with her.  She is such a sweet, wise, confident woman who has been a huge influence throughout my life.  Every time I see her she reminds me how I used to cuddle with her after her husband (my Grandpa) died when I was one year old.  She also reminds me that I was born saying "Me do myself!" And she has the same sort of attitude in life.  Its a little hard to see her depending so much on others for her basic needs and slowing down so much, but she still has the same happy spirit and is always a joy to be with.

After our four hour visit flew by, we went back to my Sister's house in Roy to get the kids and I went on a bike ride with my sister.  She went out with me for almost an hour but had to turn around and head home while I rode the Legacy trail all the way back to Aaron's sister's home in NSL, probably about 30 miles in all.

Aaron and I woke Abe and Breanne up early to run their first 5K.  My sister, Jen as well as Allie and James came to the race as well.  Aaron barefooted it next to Abe (6) who did a fabulous job pacing himself and breathing through a sideache. Allie and I ran next to Breanne (5) who jogged pretty well for a while until about half way through the race when we were approaching my sister-in-law, Ashley's house and I asked Bre if she wanted to grab her bike for the second half of the race.  She did, of course and swiftly flew off to the finish line while Allie and I ran the rest of the way in.  Abe pushed on through and finished in 34:30 for his first 5K!  I guess we'll have to try another day to pace Breanne through an entire 5K, but she sure had fun in her first unofficial duathalon! It was nice seeing Allie and James...oh and James won the race, of course.  ;)

Later that day....Aaron and I couldn't resist running the Elephant Rock trail in Mueller Park.  Its the trail where my brothers used to take me mountain biking all the time when I was younger. And I hiked it many times with my family as I was growing up too.  Beautiful!

Stayed with our friends, Jake and Manon Seethaler in Herriman (a.k.a. Harry Man), UT.  Went for a nice run out on the open country roads followed by a full day of fourth of July madness.  First we helped our kids (and a bunch of other neighborhood kids) decorate blocks of wood with paint, stickers, straws, and balloons and raced them down the canal by Jake's house.  Abe won 2nd place, Ali was somewhere in the middle, and Breanne swept the rear. Then we went to Dollar Tree and all the kids picked out a prize.  Lunch, ice blocking in the park, swimming, Cafe Rio, and fireworks rounded out the day nicely.  Not just any fireworks, aerial fireworks....shooting out all over the valley....thousands of them.  It was awesome.

Slow, easy five around the neighborhood.  Hip feels pretty good, not great yet but getting better.

90 minutes of cycling.  Rode to the top of Flagstaff road.  There is a super steep section just before the top and I was dripping sweat bigtime while my heart rate shot through the roof.  Loved it.
From Jul 8, 2011

I also went to pilates reformer today.  Making a commitment to go in for a class at least once a week.  It will help my hip and strengthen my core.

Easy run from FAC.  Lots of stretching and some core work afterwards.

Boulder has been getting afternoon thunderstorms almost all week and I absolutely love it!  Cools the temperature down and puts this fresh smell in the air.  I hear the thunder rolling in right now.

2 hr. bike ride up north.  Stopped at Boulder Res for the Boulder Peak Triathlon Expo to say hi to Karen with Athletes Honey Milk.  It was nice chatting with Karen; oh and that Honey Milk is good stuff!!

Ran a little but mostly hiked because I woke up with a severe kink in my back and the combination of stabbing back pain between my shoulder blades as well as dull hip pain and mild plantar fascia pain was more than I was willing to run through.  At least I got to be outside hiking around in the foothills for 75 minutes.  Its hard to be in a bad mood when there is so much peaceful beauty around.

90 minute bike ride.  My back felt a little bit better but still pretty annoying.  The damp, cool, refreshing air put me in a good mood though.

I met a new friend, Janeth Alder today.  She just moved to Boulder and is a BYU track and CC alumni just like me (just a couple of years before me).  She is training for her first marathon this fall and has four kids around the same ages as my kids.  Janeth just happened to join the Running Republic group and my friend Sarah told me there was another LDS woman in the group so I contacted her to meet up.  We'll definitely be running again soon.  I may even go to the Running Republic workout this Saturday and run easy just to say hi to everyone.

My back pain was even more severe today but at least running with Janeth (pronounced Janet) helped me keep my mind off it a bit.  Muscle spasms in the back are the WORST!  Argh.

2 hr. bike ride up to Longmont and back.  Peaceful overcast morning.  Organized all the kids toys today.  Threw away three garbage bags full and gave away two more.  I love purging stuff from our house. If I could live in a mountain cabin with only the bare necessities, I'd be perfectly content.  Too much stuff clutters my mind.
