Six miles in 42:50 around the wood chip trail at Liberty Park. Wanted to avoid hills. Pain in the achilles kicked in at around a half mile and sort of got worse and worse until about 3 miles. Then the pain either lessened or I got used to it I'm not sure which. Anyway, the last two miles were actually fairly enjoyable running at about 6:30 pace.

Didn't feel any loss of aerobic fitness after my month of almost no running so the cross training has paid off I think. Definitely a decline in neuromuscular fitness though as I don't feel nearly as smooth as I did before the injury. "Smooth" is a vague concept I realize, maybe running economy would be better?

Finished up with 2 miles on the elliptical in 15 minutes.

I think I might give the 10k at Deseret News a try next Saturday.

That's great your legs are getting back to normal. Sounds like the cross training paid off.

Can't believe Deseret races are in just one week!

Thanks Allie, Mark, and Steve. You guys are great. Mark, I'll still drive you over the marathon course Thursday or Friday if you want.

Crazy or hardcore??? Hmmmm??? Likely both. So how is the achilles feeling?

(Any chance you have put a heel lift in your shoe to reduce some of the impact until it heals?)

Teena Narie - yes, I have thrown a couple Dr. Schoals heel inserts into my shoes and they seem to help some. I need to experiment with something a little better.

I just really want to do Deseret News this Sat. I've never missed it since moving to Utah and I really love the race. After the race, I'll be content to rest and heal.

Then you know all about those first two steep downhill miles!! :) :) :)

(Albeit, uphill would likely be worse.)

Most podiatrist sell decent inserts for about $7. I think our clinic sells them for $12. My podiatrist cuts out his own and gives them to his patients for free. Nice! I have never seen the Scholl's inserts.

I rely far too much on quick fixes to get me through training seasons, races, etc. I'm trying to get away from that, but I will throw it out there anyway: Have you tried any kinesio taping?
