Grrrrr.....

This course, for me at least, was not as fast as I expected. Yes, there was quite a net downhill but there were plenty of uphills at altitude mixed in. Definitely a course you have to muscle through more than a rhythm course. So here's the story...

Mile 1 - 5:17

Mile 2 - 5:38

Mile 3 - 5:39

Mile 4 - 5:46

Mile 5 - 5:36

Mile 6 - 5:47

Mile 7 - 5:45

Mile 8 - 5:47

Mile 9 - 5:46

Mile 10 - 5:39

Mile 11 - 5:58 (trouble on the horizon)

Mile 12 - 5:53 ( A for effort, keeping it together sort of)

Mile 13 (prepare to laugh) - 6:40 (total crash and burn)

What to say about this last mile? It was hot. I was tired. No one ahead of me I could hope to catch. No one behind me who was going to catch me. So I gave in to the pain and let a wave of wimpiness roll over me.

With a 5:49 avg. it's more like you rode that wave of wimpiness all the way to the beach!

But mainly I wanted to say thanks for sharing that bumper sticker quote on your blog yesterday. Lol!

Hey - nice work all the same Rob - really smoked through the first 10. Hard to get motivated with no one to catch and no one catching you if you are feeling the heat. I am sure if you had someone to catch or you were hearing footsteps you'd have turned on the competitor mode.

GREAT JOB Rob! I ditto Bret! Chalk it up as a nice workout for ya since there was no one to race with that last mile! :)

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Jul 09, 2011 at 18:03:11 from 98.202.141.17

Thanks guys, but I was there. It was wimpiness.

then...

at least it was only a mile of it!

That's exactly what I was thinking Dave. It would have been a great day for a 12 miler!

Nice run! Sub 6:00 miles till the end is still cruisin and a solid workout I'd say.

Yeah that mile 13 is a sucker punch. It got me too, but it looks like I chicked you for that one mile :D Not to pour salt in. On the bright side, I loved your metaphor of the wave of wimpiness. Laughed for the wittiness, not the split. There are times we all feel that way.

I love your brutal honesty!!! :)

Congrats on another amazing race and placing!!!

Let me know if you ever find the bumper sticker!! :) :) :)

Wow Rob, I surly hope that I can whimp out with some great splits like you turned in on this race!!!! Way to put in a great race together!!!!! Now it's time to concentrate on the Des News Mary!!!

From Jon on Sun, Jul 10, 2011 at 18:17:51 from 98.71.175.163

Man, you can wimp out much better than that. Next time I expect a 7:40, at least.

From Steve on Tue, Jul 12, 2011 at 14:01:33 from 76.27.108.183

Nice race Rob, hope you get some running in in New York
