I had some success in high school and college. Winner 1985 Rod Dixon Run 

Had a fair amount of success as a Masters runner for most of my 40s. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Have fun with running, explore more trails, stay healthy.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running and racing consistently for as long as I can. Find what is sustainable for me over the long run.

I teach AP European History and other courses at Alta High School. I coached the track and cross country teams at Alta for 16 years.

PM: 4.5 eliptical miles. Not a good one.

Had some thoughts today. I did a very hard full body weight workout yesterday. Among other things, I did 12 consecutive strict pull-ups. According to ChatGPT, less than 1% of 61 year old men can do that. When I do something like that it allows me to delude myself into thinking that that I'm still young. Today I thought I would do a fairly hard aerobic effort of 60-70 minutes on the eliptical and it was a no-go. Had to pull the plug after 30 minutes even though I slept well last night and ate well today. I was just weak and depleated.

It turns out that I'm getting old and can't do back do back hard days even if it's different kinds of training. I have a hard job that takes quite a bit out of me mentally and even emotionally some days. There are days when I have to go into the book room at the end of the day and just sit quietly in the dark for a few minutes. I never had to do that when I was 35. In addition, Ann has a hard, full-time job as well and we are both pooped at the end of the day. All this is to say that I should probably be content with two decent workouts a week combined with hiking in the mountains and walking. In the spring, I'll hop back on the bike and see how that goes. 

Just rambling and sorting things out.

Back at it today. I donated blood yesterday and it kicked by butt more than usual. Went for a long walk with Ann in the evening, but that was it for the day.

Today was ACT day at school so I didn't have to do any teaching - just adminstered the test.

Noon: Weights in the Alta weight room.

PM: 6.5 miles in the Dimple Dell gully. Short swim and hot tub soak afterwards.

The United States government fessed up to killing lots of children at a school in Iran today.

I completed my airport security training and am officially a USO volunteer. I will be working 4-8 hours a week at the Salt Lake airport USO.

Thankful that Andy has several more months to go of training before he can be useful to the Marine Corps. Maybe this mess can be wrapped up by then? Of course we'll probably be on to Cuba by then.

Robert Mueller died today. He was the former director of the F.B.I. and a Marine platoon commander in Vietnam. He was shot, received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Married his high school sweetheart, a special education teacher. He did everything his country asked of him for 81 years.

Our president posted "I'm glad he's dead".

Standardized testing at school today for 9th and 10th graders and, since I don't teach those grades, I have no assigned duties until 11 am when I do AP exam review for 4 hours.

Got word from Andy today that he's officially starting his class tommorrow in Pensacola. Then it's off to Cherry Point, NC for more schooling. This will all take several months which is a relief to me and his mother as it will be quite some time before the government can get its hands on him for our wars. By then maybe Iran and possibly Cuba and who knows what else will be resolved.
