20.25 in 2:32 - all of it circling Liberty Park. Lots of activity at the park this morning. I saw Bill Cobler with his East High kids, Demetrio Cabanillas, the whole Erickson clan, and I was able to do a couple laps of the park with Emily Jameson which helped pass the time.

I finished up the run with some fast striders at the end. Good to run fast on tired legs every so often.

I'm almost certain that this was my first 20 miler since May, 2012.

I'm happy with this run. I felt good. I didn't dip under 8 minute pace until the fourth mile and still averaged 7:30 for the run. I'm feeling pretty strong 12 days out from the Utah Valley Half and a month out from Grandma's.

Did you get to ask Emily what Teren is up to? He hasn't been racing much lately.

That's a good run Rob.

But seriously, why with all the amazing trails in this state would you run circles in a park?

From Rob Murphy on Mon, May 27, 2013 at 18:56:56 from 24.10.249.165

1. Trails are slow.

2. The trails I really like are still under snow.

3. Don't have to worry about water.

4. I've done lots of hilly/trail running already this week and I needed some consistent turnover for a long period of time.

5. My legs appreciate the soft, wood-chip path which allows me to recover faster.

Nice way to raise the bar on LP loops. The wood chips are heaven for the legs.

Nice job on the first long run in a year.

Makes sense Rob. Those long runs do more for my confidence than about anything. I don't even feel like a runner until I work up to the occasional 20 miler. It's good to see your running going so well.

Is Utah Valley the PR attempt you mentioned a few weeks ago (maybe it was months)?

Last fall I pretended you didn't need to go too long on long runs to run the marathon. I'm sure there are people who can, but I'm sticking with 20+ and on good days squeaking in a few more miles.

Good run, congrats on the 20 miler. Nice surface there at Liberty too to make it easier on the ol' body.
