Short-Term Running Goals:

It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011.  When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free.  Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running.

Personal:

Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us.  It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up.  I love seeming them happy and succeeding.

Not a good day for intervals.  Started by running a couple of miles and tried to do my intervals.  Not really into it.  Did a few 800's at a 7"53 pace.  Another 2 at 7:35 pace.  After 4 I had to take a break to get a drink.  I was glad to do 2 more before finishing with normal miles.  I've been feeling pretty burnt out so was glad it was done.

Ran at the river again today.  This was my my second run outside for the year!  I liked it better than Monday's run.  Alittle windy, but, overall it was alright.

Tempo run at the gym today.  Ran a couple of miles before getting into the run. Overall, I was happy with my pace - 8:30 min mile. Ended up being an ok run which I was happy about.

Easy run on the TM at the gym.  To windy outside today. I've been making sure to eat something before leaving work. I'm finding my runs are better.   Glad the weeks over.  We tried a new place to eat - Stockman's.  Not to bad of a place.

Intervals today.  Not my favorite day.  But, it was better than expected. 

Ran 4x1200 w/400 recovery. 2 mile warmup. 7:30 (165 HR) - 7:30 (168) - 7:24 (169) - 7:24 (170).  Finished with 4 miles in upper end of Zone 2 and then cooled down with a .25 miles.  Ended up running 10.25 miles.

I actually enjoyed the run today.

Nice day today!!!  Was very glad to be running outside. On my second lap around the greenbelt I saw my sister. She was just getting there so we ran another lap and then some so I could get 7 miles.  It was nice running with her because she's so busy.  Loving the weather!

Nice run at the river today.  It's getting pretty warm.  I'm thinking about running in the mornings now and going to work later. I was actually happy with my pace even with it being warmer. Getting excited for the Mad Marathon tomorrow!  Marlin and I will be the last aid station for the race.  Hope everyone has a good run.

Didn't have a chance to run today!  Kinda bummed, but, it's alrigt.  Will just run tomorrow and consider today as my day off.  I was not going to get up with Marlin at 2am and after helping with the Mad Marathon had lots to do. It was great to see all the runners today.  Not to many runners passed by our aid station and it was to close to the finish I think, but, it was all good. 

Sad day yesterday with a murder suicide in town yesterday.  Five people in all.  One of the girls worked at the company I work for.  Didn't know her as she worked in another department.  Sometimes things just don't make sense.  Extremely sad. 

Congratulations to all the runners today!!!  Great cause.

Ran around the river today. 11 miles.  It got windy towards the end.  I knew I was getting out late, but just enjoyed part of the morning at home.  Went home afterwards and got a few things done. Chicken dinner with the whole family, Marlin, Malory, parents, sister and her 2 girls.  Nice time.

Pretty nice run around the river. It was cool so that was nice.  I've been happy with my HR the last couple of days. Staying between Zone 1 & 2. I've been making sure and eat an hour or so before and I can sure tell a difference.

First early morning run outside.  NICE.  Sure was nice being out before the sun came up.  I left the house around 5:15am.  Would actually like to leave earlier.  Just an easy day today.

Got up to Coeur d'Alene!  Actually went into work at the office here.  Got to meet co-workers I've never met before.  After a few hours went back to the hotel and did a 40 min run on the TM at the hotel.  The hotel was eatting hamburgers so ate at the hotel.

Day off today.  Actually went back into work and worked the morning. When I got back at the hotel Marlin and I went downtown Coeur d'Alene and walked around.  It was rainy and kinda cold.  But, fun seeing downtown.

Easy run down by a little area that was kinda neat.  Had a pond with a fountain and walkway around it - half mile around. Felt pretty good at an 8:30 pace.  Happy with how I felt.  After the run we went back and ate breakfast.  Met another runner here who's this will be his 50th marathon.  Nice talking to him about his training over the years.  We just got back from the local farmers market - heading to the expo soon.

I don't have any huge race report like others on the blog.  But, I do want to say I'm happy with how the race went and motivates me to want to improve even more.  We were there early since Marlin was starting at 7am.  I felt like a slacker only doing the half.  Time went by pretty quickly and before I knew it the half marathon was starting.  I was alittle bit further back in the pack than I'd wanted to be when it started.  I knew I could  just do what I could do - I was alittle over half way back.  In the first mile we narrowed down onto a path which was a pain.  You couldn't get around anyone because there were so many people.  I knew I was losing time.  Once we could spread out I just tried to focus and keep going. I wanted to be careful with picking it up to fast because I knew I'd pay for it later on.  But, I was happy that I was under a 8.5 min mile.  I felt pretty good the first few miles and thought 'maybe I can maintain this....'.  

Around mile 5 as I was checking my (Garmin) watch a guy I'd just passed asked what our pace was.  We were at 8:22.  I ran with him for awhile and we talked about what we were hoping to finish at.  He picked up his pace and left.  I sure didn't expect to see him again.  Happy to report I saw him around mile 12 and said 'hello' - with a grin.  I could tell he was stuggling and he asked me how much further we had.  I knew I needed to keep picking it up now that we were getting towards the end.  I don't have what I ran each mile like Marlin does.  I'm not very good at doing that.  I just watched my time and my goal was to stay under an 8.5 min mile and not go beyond that pace.  I did get caught up at two of the aid stations making sure I got a good drink.  That's one thing I'll work on.  I know I lost time.  Between the path in the beginning and the aid stations I was happy with my time. Throughout the race I felt pretty good and either maintained or continued to pick it up more as time went on.

The course did have some hills, but I had a good time running this race. I am convinced now putting in the miles and training does pay off.  I loved seeing more people behind me that in front of me. I loved seeing everyone out there giving it all they had.  Here's the number that I do have. 

Finishing time:  1:51:08

Overall:  260th out of 1412 runners

Age group (50 - 54): 10th out of 56

Didn't have a chance to run yesterday since we were driving home from Coeur d'Alene.  Ran today after work for 7 miles.  Legs felt pretty good. It was alittle windy, but, overall, not to bad.
