Local 10k's 2009 & 2010 Short-Term Running Goals: It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011. When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. Long-Term Running Goals: "You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement." - Steve Prefontaine
I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free. Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running. Personal: Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us. It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up. I love seeming them happy and succeeding. |

| | Long, long run this morning. I knew I wanted to go at least 10 -12 miles. I was happy to get a few more in than that. Overall, feel pretty good. Just tired right now. Went to the Museum of Idaho and then shopping! My feet are tired now. I plan on running around 7 miles tomorrow. Marlin signed us up for the 5k on the 4th. |

Firecracker 5K Freedom Run (3.1 Miles) 00:23:31 | |
Had planned on taking today off until Marlin signed us up for the Firecracker 5K Freedom Run this morning. First 5k ever. It was fun doing a shorter race. This was the first race I really pushed myself. I've never pushed myself like this in a race before. I could tell my pace slowed as the race went on. I was happy to do a 7:34 to finish in 23:31. And, finished in the top 100...barely - 98th out of 700+ runners. But, did it. Second in my age group. There was no way I could compete with who came in 1st. She was way more advanced than I am. I didn't run anymore for the day since it was my day off. Spent the rest of the day going to the parade, home for a short while, went down the river and then to a friends house to eat and hang out. Home and a nap!
It was great spending time with friends. They're all trying to lose a few pounds and exercise. It was great to encourge them to actually work towards a half - marathon! |

Pretty good run early this morning. I was so glad to be out before 5am. Hopefully I'll get to bed early tonight to do it again tomorrow. Ran 8 miles. Still feel like I'm recovering from the long run on Sat. and race on Monday. I could just have been tired from being up late last night. It was midnight before we got to bed. Sure did have a fun time with Marlin yesterday. I wasn't sure what I thought when he signed us up for the 5k race, but it ended up being pretty fun. I've been walking 20-30 min's at work on lunch lately. Just count it as 1mile. One of these days I'll have to measure it. |

| | Nice run in the morning. I just love getting out early. I get to work alittle later, but it's alright. Work so getting hectic. Lots of changes and have not heard if I'm moving to another account. Kind of hope I do. A change would be good. But, until then, work as normal. |

| | I didn't run this morning because I wanted to have more time to do a longer run. I knew I wanted to do 10 miles and I didn't want the stress of getting to work. It wasn't the best run I've had for awhile. It was warmer and breezy. I was glad I finished it out. Heading to the cabin for the next couple of days. |

| | Ran up at the cabin in the morning. Was glad to get out as early as I did because it started to get warmer than I like. Nice hill we get to run up there.Took off from the cabin, ran down to Buttermilk boat dock - went back and up to the main road. |

It was a quick trip to the gym today after work. I knew I wanted to do Intervals and didn't want to feel rushed before work. It was pretty interesting because I haven't done any intervals for almost 6 weeks. It felt good to do a different type of run and overall was happy with the run.
Ran 5x800 w/400 recovery.Wwarmup. 7:35 (159) - 7:30 (165) - 7:30 (170) - 7:13 (173) - 7:13 (175). Finished out the run to make up 7 miles. Picked up the pace in the last mile since I had an appointment to be at by 4:30pm.

| | I went to work at 6am this morning because I had an interview for another account and I didn't want to go in after running and being rushed to get ready for work. I ran down by the river around 3 this afternoon. Boy, was it hot! I tried to not push it because I could tell I was tired. Who runs when it's 90 degree's outside???? I wasn't sure if I was tired because of the heat or because of yesterdays run. I just know today I want to go to bed earlier today. Stayed up to late last night. |

| | Didn't run early in the morning because I knew I wanted to do a Tempo run. Haven't done one of those in a LONG time. Actually walked for 30 min's over lunch. After work I sure didn't feel like running! Thanks honey for not letting me off the hook and making me feel guilty. : ) Went to the gym and ran the Tempo run. Started with a 10 minute warm up in Zone 1. Then ran 50 min's in Zone 2 - upper end. Got tiring towards the end. Wanted to quit between 30 & 40 min's. Somehow I made it to the 50's. Finished with 15 min's slowing it down to finish with a cool down. Ended up running just over 9 miles. Did a couple of arm weights and situps before leaving the gym. |

| | Today I was able to run at the gym. Pretty good tempo run for one hour. I was really happy about that because I was dreading the run alittle. After that I did the Arc Trainer for another 20 min's. Then moved into doing some weights, situp's and stretching. I've been pretty happy with my workout's later. |

| | Marlin and I are down in SLC so we ran Liberty Park this morning. He did a short run since he's running the marathon tomorrow morning. I ran around and around the park to do just over 16 miles. I was glad to get a long run in even with it getting pretty warm. Stretched and did situp's before leaving the park. Now, just need to get ready to find something to do around town. Might get back to the hotel for a nap this afternoon. People are out and about getting ready for the parade here tomorrow. |

I always stress about Tuesday runs. All day at work I keep thinking...Intervals. Once I got to the gym I got more motivated. I had a hard time getting my HR up. I was glad to have a good run. After running I went and did the Arc Trainer for 20 min's and then did some weights. Mainly arm weights. My sister showed up about this time and talked to her while I finished up and went to go stretch. She went to ride the bike while I finished up. I'm liking the cross training. Felt pretty good about todays workout and walking at lunch time at work.
Ran 6x1200 w/400 recovery. 1 mile warmup @ 9:05. 7:30 (156 HR) - 7:30 (158) - 7:30 (160) - 7:30 (160) - 7:24 (165) - 7:24 (170). Finished with 2 miles in Zone 2 and then cooled down. |

I've been working out after work lately because I've been able to do other things after running. Ran 7 easy miles today and then did the Arc Trainer for 20 min's. I then did some arm weights before stretching & situps. I've liked getting more of a workout. |

| | I ran my tempo run at the gym today. 1 mile w/up and 1 mile cooldown. Ended up running 8 miles. Felt pretty good about my HR. Ended up running at a 8:06 pace and HR was still the middle to upper end of Zone 2. I kept it there because I want to get comfortable with that pace. After running I didn't quite have as much time because I wanted to go back to work for an hour or so. So, ended up doing my situp's and stretching. Marlin came upstairs around this time. He's feeling much better! I'm glad he's not overdoing it right now. After working out I went back to work for awhile. On my way home my daughter calls me to let me know my nephew's wife and her 2 kids were there from Boise. I didn't expect them to come to my house first. I thought they might go to my parents so they could see their great grandchild. |
