Local 10k's 2009 & 2010 Short-Term Running Goals: It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011. When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. Long-Term Running Goals: "You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement." - Steve Prefontaine
I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free. Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running. Personal: Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us. It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up. I love seeming them happy and succeeding. |

Nice day at the gym today. Imagine my shock coming up the stairs and seeing a row of awsome runners! Alitte intimating to say the least. I headed up to the back top TM as I like them better than the ones below. It was great seeing everyone running in front of me.
I never know what I'll do after my first hour. Just go mile by mile. Ended up doing 15 on the TM. Thought I'd stop at 12, but then decided what the heck just 3 more. The last mile to mile and a half got tough that's for sure. I appreciated that Jeff stopped by to say hello and let me know who everyone was. I'd seen all them all at the gym at different times before. Pretty amazing to see them all there at once. Who knows maybe some dead I'll attempt another marathon. It was a good day. |

| | Well, I guess I'll enter my run today. I seriously thought about not running today. Even went home after work. It was probably because it was a stressful day at work and cold outside. Not that I was going to run outside but sure didn't feel like doing anything after work. Decided to go ahead and go workout. Once I got to the gym the run ended up not being to bad. Did a few Fartleks in the run. The run was alot better than yesterdays so I was glad I went back into town.

After work I went home thinking I'd take today off. The last two days I haven't felt like going to the gym after work. But, once I get home I end up changing my mind and going back into town. Once I got to the gym I just did 6.5 miles on the TM. Tomorrow I'm just going to go! I was somewhat tired but it got alittle better as time went on. |

| | Another day on the TM. Did the usual run of 7 miles. I'm starting to think about switching things up alittle by doing more speed workouts. I just keep running the 7 miles everyday. Trying to figure out if I want to start running in the mornings. I've always like working out better in the morning. But, I like to make sure I have plenty of time in case I want a longer run that day. Will probably run tomorrow and take Sat as my day off. My last day off was last Friday. |

| | Got off of work early today. I went back to work after yesterdays workout and worked until 8pm. It was nice working out earlier today. Thought about taking the day off but decided maybe tomorrow. Last day off was last Friday. I tried not watching tv on the TM today. Sometimes I don't like the distraction. Just watched the last mile or so. Pretty good run. Just alittle tired. Did some leg and arm weights after running. Was happy with the workout overall. |

| | Went to the gym today to run with my heart monitor. Haven't used it in a LONG time. My HR always runs high. Ran on the lower level TM's and it was kinda nice. Usually they hurt my shins. I ran at different speeds to see what the monitor would say. By the end of the run I was at 7:53 miles and my HR was at 177/178. After running me and my daughter Malory did some arm weights. Was pretty happy with the workout. Tomorrow there is a crosstraining class I"m going to do at 6am. I figure I'll run first and then go do the class. |

Went to the gym early this morning!!! It's been a long time since I've gone that early. I was holding off becasue I'd been worried I wouldn't have enough time to stay longer if I wanted a longer workout. I tried it this morning because there was a cross training class that was at 6am. So, I wanted to get a run in before the class. Ran 5 miles and then did the class. It was pretty interesting. We did a few cross training things and then rode the bike for 20 min & then ran 1mile. I'm going to really and try and give it a fair chance. But, I will still run before the class. I expected more girls to be there. There was only 2 of us! And, I think there was 7 guys. Overall, it was good because the instructor was female. Thank goodness!
I liked getting my run done early in the morning. I talked to my boss and he's fine with whenever I want to come in. Nice! It'll be another early day tomorrow. |

| | Another early day at the gym. Pretty nice going and seeing everyone and I get to run with Marlin. Getting up early is a pain but the trade offs are worth it. I've been doing alittle speed work out and I could sure feel it in my legs today. I ran the normal 6 and actually got off to go do some weight. I ended up going back and running another 2. I was still able to get to work by 7:30am. Tomorrow is the cross training class again. So far I still plan on going. Hopefully my legs feel better in the morning. |

Went to the gym bright and early this morning. Love going in the morning. Except the first 5 min's waking up. My legs have been sore so did an easy run today. Been putting in some speed work and am trying out the cross training class. Makes me want to try some other classes. But, have to be able to get my run in first. Legs are still sore so we'll see how tomorrow goes. It was great running with Marlin! Not many people there this morning. But, it was great to see Jeff. I'm always impressed! : ) |

Went to the gym early today. Wanted to get my run done so I didn't have to worry about it later. Ran 15 on the TM. I started to get really tired around 12 miles. I should have kept my pace down more. Was glad to make it through the last 3 miles! Went between a 8:49 and 8:34. Marlin did great today. He ran 20 on the TM.

I got off work early today. Marlin and I went to SLC for a V02 Max test. It was pretty interesting to do the test. But, it was so nice to learn where we stood. The Treehouse Athletic Club was so nice! Felt like I had been to a spa. Wish we could have stayed longer. On the way back to the hotel we went by an In & Out Burger. We just had to eat there. We hardly ever get to eat there and I love it. Marlin was great letting me eat there. I think he likes it the same as I do.
I'm really liking knowing my HR range. I knew I had a high HR. But, now I know what pace I can do. I've been doing to many of the same runs. I need to do more slower runs and more speedwork both. Marlin and I fell in the Superior range for our V02 which makes me happy. |

| | Great day in Salt Lake today! When Marlin and I got up we hung out at the hotel for alittle while. Got alittle breakfast and then headed out to run. Since we checked out Liberty Park and Sugerhouse Park yesterday we decided to run Liberty Park. Two great parks! It was a tough choice. Really enjoyed the run. When I started I wasn't sure what I'd do after the first hour. But, I was feeling pretty good so I kept going. Was glad I did 15. Felt pretty good. |

Slower pace run today on the TM. I was really trying to keep my HR down today. Legs were tired from yesterday. I always find it harder the day after intervals to keep my HR where it should be. I really need to work on that!
It's been hectic with my parents up from Ariz this week. Glad I'm still able to get my runs in. I just get home later because I need to stop by and see them for awhile after the gym. It's alright. Wish the weather was warmer since they're visiting! |

Made it to the gym today after work. I'm glad tomorrows Friday. Every day there is some kind of meeting to go to. Tomorrow's a 2 hr meeting. Marlin's offtomorrow so he's going to be busy with errands. Kinda nice him having a day off!
For the run today I did a 15 min warm up and then moved it up to marathon pace (average 166 HR) - ending with a cool down for about 15 min's. Wisih my HR was alittle lower, but, I felt ok overall. I can tell it takes me a couple of days after intervals before my legs feel better. |

Thought about running outside today. But, ended up at the gym. Can't wait until the sun comes out more! The plan was to run 7 miiles, but it was turning out to be a good run so ended up doing 10.5. I'm learning to breath so it keeps my HR down. I just kept it at a 9.50 min mile. But, I managed to keep my HR down super low. Kept it at the below Zone 1 actually. Just need to keep practicing. Tomorrow is a day off. My sister is taking her kids skiing and asked if I want to go. Odds are I won't go, but it does sound fun. I'm hoping to go cross country skiing in the next couple of week. What I really want is warm weather!
In a week and a half Marlin and I are going to Napa for him to run the marathon there. Sure wish they had a half. It'll be great because we're staying with my sister and her husband for the first couple of days and then we're all going to Napa on Sat. Got a good deal from a friend of ours for a hotel. |

Got to my sisters today before noon. Marlin and I went for a run shortly after we got here. It was alittle warm but very nice. Ran 7 at a pace that felt pretty good. It's alittle hilly here so that was nice until towards the end I started to get tired of them. Came back to her house, ate lunch and hung out the rest of the day. |

Marlin ran his marathon this morning. It was alot of fun seeing him take off with everyone. We'd had a great day the day before going to the Expo and then a winery to eat lunch and tour the wine celler. What a beautiful place we were. I was really glad my sister and brother in law were there with us. We'd gotten a hotel room from a friend at home who's family owned a hotel in St. Helena. It was a great location. We got Marlin up at the start by 6am and it was raining. Everyone got pretty wet, but it was fun hanging out at the start. Once the runners took off we drove down to mile 7. We didn't have to wait to long and here came Marlin. He didn't expect us. It was great! He loved seeing us. Once he passed by my sister and I wanted to get a run in and we'd dressed in our running clothes so we just took off at mile 7. We'd kinda of planned it because the day before at the expo the speaker said you could run with a loved one or friend if you wanted to on the course. I didn't want to interfear with Marlin's race so we'd planned on running after he'd passed by. There wasn't many places to run in St. Helena so this worked out well. It was very nice running with all the runners. I really enjoyed it. We ran 8 miles and Larry was there to pick up us. After that we were going to head down to the finish line. We stopped for coffee at a small shop first. Once we got to the finish it wasn't to long until Marlin came in. He was there sooner than we'd expected. It was AWESOME!!! He'd had a great race! Made me want to do it next year! |

My sister plans on running a marathon next month and has not been running to many miles. It'll be interesting to see how she does. |

I sure didn't feel like working out today! I wasn't really tired, just didn't feel like working out. It was cold this morning and it's been hectic at work. But, went ahead and did a speed workout. I warmed up for 1 mile. The first couple of intervals I had a hard time getting my HR up there. 6 x 1200 x 400 cooldown. .05 incline. 1 mile wu. 7:53 (165), 7:53 ( 168), 7:42 (168), 7:42 (172), 7:35 (177), 7:53 (177).

Today I just wanted a normal run. Kept it at 7 miles. Hoping to have a good day tomorrow. I'm thinking about running outside. I knew Marlin and I were going out to eat afterwards so didn't have a ton of time. Marlin and I have paid quite a bit of attention on calories at restaurants lately. It's amazing how many some things have! I'm not sure if I can eat at Olive Garden again unless I get basic spagetti. Almost everything they have has a ton of fat. We ended up going to eat chinese. Back to how the run went. Pretty happy with my HR. It did get in the upper end of Zone 2 a couple of times, but overall it was pretty low. Average was 148 which is low for me. That HR is in my Zone 1 range. Things may be starting to pay off.
Looking forward to tomorrow. We do the local co-op in town that we just found out about a month ago. For $15 we get our fruit and vegs for the week. We actually don't know what we'll get until you pick it up. They bring the fruits/veggies up from Ariz, Calif & Mexico. It's so much better than buying it out of the store. After we pick that up we have a few errands to run. Marlin didn't go fishing this weekend so he'll be able to do errands with me. Nice! |

Intervals today. I glad I don't dread Tue's as much as I used to. The last week or so I've had a hard time getting my HR up into where it should be.
Ran 7x1200 w/400 recovery. 1 mile warmup. 7:53 (152) - 7:53 (155) - 7:41 (165) - 7:35 (173) - 7:30 (173) - 7:30 (175) - 7:24 (175). Finished with 2 mile cooldown between Zone 1 & 2.
Average HR for the whole run was 158. I need to do better with getting my HR up earlier! Hate to say it but I'm enjoying the interval work now. When I started it was no fun at all. I'm reading a book out of the library that was written in '79. Pretty interesting to read what training was like back then. Who would know running would be where it is now.
My (younger) sister is getting to run her first marathon in SL in a couple of weeks. Granted she's a single mom and has two girls. But, she has not done the needed training! My other (older) sister just ran her first half marathon. She started running alittle over a year ago. She did great. Time was 2:09 hrs. I'm very proud of her! |

Went to the gym today after work to run on the TM. Ended up running 9 miles. After the first 4 I went to get a drink of water. When I came back Marlin was talking to another runner there that I had been running next to. He's an older gentleman and does well. I'd like to ask how old he is becuase I know he's in his 70's. When I talked to him in the past he talked about running 5-6 miles pretty much every day. I'm always impressed by him. Once we were all done talking I ended up running another 5 miles. I put in an extra mile because I'd stopped. One of these days I'll start running outside again. It was to windy today. I called the Parks & Rec Center down by the river and learned they have lockers you can rent. I want to get one to have someplace to change after work and when I run the river. |

Tempo run today. Heck, I was still tired from Tue. The run was better than I expected so that made me happy. I warmed up for about 1 1/2 miles and then moved into a tempo run. Total miles were 8 miles with a small cool down. Stretched afterwards. I need to make sure and get to bed earlier. Maybe that'll help with being tired.

What a day it's been. At work finishing up end of month quota's. Left work for awile for a funeral. A women who I considered a second mom had passed away. I went back to work for an hour and then went to the church to see who I could see since I'd not been able to talk to the family before the funeral service. When I got there I wanted to make sure and see Vicki Bass. It was great to see all the kids. I was glad to be able to talk to Vicki for a short while. I hope to see her in Aug when she'll be up in Island Park. It was absolutely amazing to reconnect with a family whom I'd met at 5 yrs old. Our families lived out in the country and grew up together. The history and memories are unreplaceable.
Almost didn't go to the gym afterwards because it was later in the afternoon. Sure glad I did tho. Ran 7 easy miles. |

Not a good day for intervals. Started by running a couple of miles and tried to do my intervals. Not really into it. Did a few 800's at a 7"53 pace. Another 2 at 7:35 pace. After 4 I had to take a break to get a drink. I was glad to do 2 more before finishing with normal miles. I've been feeling pretty burnt out so was glad it was done. |

Intervals today. Not my favorite day. But, it was better than expected.
Ran 4x1200 w/400 recovery. 2 mile warmup. 7:30 (165 HR) - 7:30 (168) - 7:24 (169) - 7:24 (170). Finished with 4 miles in upper end of Zone 2 and then cooled down with a .25 miles. Ended up running 10.25 miles.

Didn't have a chance to run today! Kinda bummed, but, it's alrigt. Will just run tomorrow and consider today as my day off. I was not going to get up with Marlin at 2am and after helping with the Mad Marathon had lots to do. It was great to see all the runners today. Not to many runners passed by our aid station and it was to close to the finish I think, but, it was all good.
Sad day yesterday with a murder suicide in town yesterday. Five people in all. One of the girls worked at the company I work for. Didn't know her as she worked in another department. Sometimes things just don't make sense. Extremely sad.

I don't have any huge race report like others on the blog. But, I do want to say I'm happy with how the race went and motivates me to want to improve even more. We were there early since Marlin was starting at 7am. I felt like a slacker only doing the half. Time went by pretty quickly and before I knew it the half marathon was starting. I was alittle bit further back in the pack than I'd wanted to be when it started. I knew I could just do what I could do - I was alittle over half way back. In the first mile we narrowed down onto a path which was a pain. You couldn't get around anyone because there were so many people. I knew I was losing time. Once we could spread out I just tried to focus and keep going. I wanted to be careful with picking it up to fast because I knew I'd pay for it later on. But, I was happy that I was under a 8.5 min mile. I felt pretty good the first few miles and thought 'maybe I can maintain this....'.
Around mile 5 as I was checking my (Garmin) watch a guy I'd just passed asked what our pace was. We were at 8:22. I ran with him for awhile and we talked about what we were hoping to finish at. He picked up his pace and left. I sure didn't expect to see him again. Happy to report I saw him around mile 12 and said 'hello' - with a grin. I could tell he was stuggling and he asked me how much further we had. I knew I needed to keep picking it up now that we were getting towards the end. I don't have what I ran each mile like Marlin does. I'm not very good at doing that. I just watched my time and my goal was to stay under an 8.5 min mile and not go beyond that pace. I did get caught up at two of the aid stations making sure I got a good drink. That's one thing I'll work on. I know I lost time. Between the path in the beginning and the aid stations I was happy with my time. Throughout the race I felt pretty good and either maintained or continued to pick it up more as time went on.
The course did have some hills, but I had a good time running this race. I am convinced now putting in the miles and training does pay off. I loved seeing more people behind me that in front of me. I loved seeing everyone out there giving it all they had. Here's the number that I do have.

I'm watching my two neice's this weekend so I wasn't sure how long of a run I'd be able to do this week. Thank goodness for grandparents! I was able to run 10.5 miles. The last couple of laps around the river there were a few social people. There is a guys who walks around the river all the time and each time I went by him he'd say something to me. The last lap I ended up stopping and talking to him for a minute. Then there was a young girl who actually started running with me. She said she had recently started running and was training for a half marathon. There was another gentlemen who talked briefly as I went by. I was glad to get alittle over 10 miles in. I did the last few because I didn't know if I'd be running tomorrow. The rest of the day was spent with my two neice's and my mom going to look at hardwood floors. Then I got to come home and clean our hardwood floors. |

What a day. I knew I wanted to get a long run in and thought 15 would be the max. I would have been happy with that. But, I ran into Marlin around mile 12 and we ended up running a couple more laps around the river. I was happy to get a few extra miles in! I don't remember the last time I've this long of a run. I need to do it more often. I was that I had started out early. If I'm up early tomorrow morning I think I'll head to the river again and do a run. Normally Sunday is a day off. Marlin did great - 20 miles. I was so happy to keep up with him. After our run we went to the Farmers Market by the river. I hadn't been yet this year so I wanted to check it out. It was great seeing all the runners running the Scenic River run today. Kinda weird not running with them and I felt alittle bad. But, I knew I wanted today to be my long run.
Marlin is leaving tomorrow morning for Lake Tahoe so I took him to get the car rented and then went and ran my Sat errands. It's going to be pretty strange having him gone! |

| | Well, today would typically be a day off. But, with Marlin being gone I had more time to spare. And, at first I was just going to go around the river twice. But, then I thought...oh, I'll just go six miles. Well, six turned into 7.25 miles to make it short. I then came home and did a few little things and then went into Macy's with my mom. Then I came home and tried to take a nap. I didn't really sleep and when I got up I went to mom and dad's and helped with dinner. Firecracker 5K Freedom Run (3.1 Miles) 00:23:31 | |
Had planned on taking today off until Marlin signed us up for the Firecracker 5K Freedom Run this morning. First 5k ever. It was fun doing a shorter race. This was the first race I really pushed myself. I've never pushed myself like this in a race before. I could tell my pace slowed as the race went on. I was happy to do a 7:34 to finish in 23:31. And, finished in the top 100...barely - 98th out of 700+ runners. But, did it. Second in my age group. There was no way I could compete with who came in 1st. She was way more advanced than I am. I didn't run anymore for the day since it was my day off. Spent the rest of the day going to the parade, home for a short while, went down the river and then to a friends house to eat and hang out. Home and a nap!
It was great spending time with friends. They're all trying to lose a few pounds and exercise. It was great to encourge them to actually work towards a half - marathon! |

It was a quick trip to the gym today after work. I knew I wanted to do Intervals and didn't want to feel rushed before work. It was pretty interesting because I haven't done any intervals for almost 6 weeks. It felt good to do a different type of run and overall was happy with the run.
Ran 5x800 w/400 recovery.Wwarmup. 7:35 (159) - 7:30 (165) - 7:30 (170) - 7:13 (173) - 7:13 (175). Finished out the run to make up 7 miles. Picked up the pace in the last mile since I had an appointment to be at by 4:30pm.

| | I went to work at 6am this morning because I had an interview for another account and I didn't want to go in after running and being rushed to get ready for work. I ran down by the river around 3 this afternoon. Boy, was it hot! I tried to not push it because I could tell I was tired. Who runs when it's 90 degree's outside???? I wasn't sure if I was tired because of the heat or because of yesterdays run. I just know today I want to go to bed earlier today. Stayed up to late last night. |

| | Didn't run early in the morning because I knew I wanted to do a Tempo run. Haven't done one of those in a LONG time. Actually walked for 30 min's over lunch. After work I sure didn't feel like running! Thanks honey for not letting me off the hook and making me feel guilty. : ) Went to the gym and ran the Tempo run. Started with a 10 minute warm up in Zone 1. Then ran 50 min's in Zone 2 - upper end. Got tiring towards the end. Wanted to quit between 30 & 40 min's. Somehow I made it to the 50's. Finished with 15 min's slowing it down to finish with a cool down. Ended up running just over 9 miles. Did a couple of arm weights and situps before leaving the gym. |

| | Marlin and I are down in SLC so we ran Liberty Park this morning. He did a short run since he's running the marathon tomorrow morning. I ran around and around the park to do just over 16 miles. I was glad to get a long run in even with it getting pretty warm. Stretched and did situp's before leaving the park. Now, just need to get ready to find something to do around town. Might get back to the hotel for a nap this afternoon. People are out and about getting ready for the parade here tomorrow. |

I always stress about Tuesday runs. All day at work I keep thinking...Intervals. Once I got to the gym I got more motivated. I had a hard time getting my HR up. I was glad to have a good run. After running I went and did the Arc Trainer for 20 min's and then did some weights. Mainly arm weights. My sister showed up about this time and talked to her while I finished up and went to go stretch. She went to ride the bike while I finished up. I'm liking the cross training. Felt pretty good about todays workout and walking at lunch time at work.

| | I ran my tempo run at the gym today. 1 mile w/up and 1 mile cooldown. Ended up running 8 miles. Felt pretty good about my HR. Ended up running at a 8:06 pace and HR was still the middle to upper end of Zone 2. I kept it there because I want to get comfortable with that pace. After running I didn't quite have as much time because I wanted to go back to work for an hour or so. So, ended up doing my situp's and stretching. Marlin came upstairs around this time. He's feeling much better! I'm glad he's not overdoing it right now. After working out I went back to work for awhile. On my way home my daughter calls me to let me know my nephew's wife and her 2 kids were there from Boise. I didn't expect them to come to my house first. I thought they might go to my parents so they could see their great grandchild. |

Ran this morning. 7.5 miles. It was great that my HR stayed down. Ran between 8:27 and 8:41 pace on the TM. I've been going to the gym lately because I like that I stretch there and get things like situps in - even on days when I'm alittle short on time.
After work - went back to the gym. I had thought about running 3 miles, but I was alittle tired. I'm sure it was from moving to a new account at work and going through training. I still have 2 1/2 weeks of training. I did the Arc Trainer for 1 hour and then went over with Marlin to stretch. |

| | Ran up at Island Park. As soon as I got down the lane and onto the road I started off towards Buttermilk. Pretty soon after I start I hear a whistle. Marlin was alittle ways behind me just finishing up his first loop. At first I thought....dang. But, it ended up being nice to have him to run with. I had been having a tough morning and had actually thought about taking the day off. I was not motivated. So, it ended up being a nice run. Part of the loop we took was a dirt road and I knew my footing was off. I know my time was about 30 seconds slower. It was not the best run I've had. So, I was glad to get the 10 done. The rest of the day was taking my mom huckleberry picking which was fun and then nap time! It was fun relaxing up the cabin the rest of day. |

I didn't run this morning because I wanted to not be tired for running this afternoon. I wanted to do my Thurs. tempo run. I did get alittle bit of stretching in before work. After work I went straight to the gym. Marlin was already there. He had already finished his run. My sister showed up right after I got there. She's wanting to do the Century Ride on Aug. 20th. So, she was there to ride the bike. I started with a 1 mile warm up and then started to bump up the speed. I kept the pace at 8:13 for quite a few miles and my HR didn't go up to high. It was in the upper end of Zone 1. As I increased my speed to 7:47 my sister Kelly and Marlin came over to talk. It was alright for awhile, however, I was trying to focus on running. After they left I increased my speed to 7:41. By the end of my tempo I was at 7:35. Boy, did that make me happy. Maybe some day I'll be able to maintain that pace for longer. I cooled down for a couple of miles and ended with 10.75 miles. After running I made sure to do a few arm weights and stretched really well. Other than my workout today work had an amazing BBQ. They grilled steaks! They were huge! I ended up eating just part of mine and bring the rest of it home. In 11 yrs I haven't seen them put on quite a good of BBQ. Tomorrow I'm going to do an easy run in the morning. |

| | I was almost tired today running. The further I went the better it got. I was just glad it was friday. No run this afternoon. Met up with Marlin after work and went to Teton Running Store. Then dinner at Stockman's. I really look forward to going to eat on Fridays. One thing I've noticed running in the mornings is there are 3 older ladies walking the Greenbelt also. When I was talking to Marlin he said they waive and say hello to him each morning, but when I see them they don't waive and barely acknowledge me when I run by. Marlin thinks it's because he's running without a shirt. Maybe I'll run a lap with him and we'll see what they do. Drives me nuts when someone's not friendly. |

| | I have to be honest. This long run was not fun. When I started out it was cloudy and alittle windy. I didn't feel like being out there. I was glad to get in the first hour. It was tempting to stop because it started raining alittle. Not many people were out. I had made a couple of potty stops because my stomach kept bothering me. I was glad I decided to keep trying. It didn't get any funner, but it did get 'somewhat' easier. It was just one of those days. No energy. I'm not sure how I got the 18 miles in, but, I was so glad it was done. | | Well, I found out a lot this weekend. I've been trying to figure out my runs haven't been very good lately and why I have no drive to run like I used to. Went to the doc Sat afternoon to see what I could find out. Seems like my electrolytes are off for one thing and he also referred me to a nutritionist. He also recommended that I don't run the TOU. He gave me some suggestions of how to get things back on track. Just taking one day at a time right now. When I ran today I just wanted to see how things went. The first 7 miles were pretty good. The last couple of miles my time dropped off and I had a harder time maintaining a good pace. I'll see how things are tomorrow morning when I run. |

Today I was suppost to run 1 hr. I've been pretty tired so I decided to go into work early and planned on running afterwards. I felt like I'd get a more quality run and workout. I have not worked a full weekend ever at my job in 11 yrs. With this new account it looks like working a Sat/Sun is going to be part of the responsibilities. I had just gotten back from lunch and my phone rings. It was from my dad. I figured he forgot I was working. In the voicemail it was actually Jose (a good friend of our family and someone who really watches out for my parents). He sounded pretty frantic. I just remember hearing' dad passed out' and 'ambulance'. I basically ran out of work, called my boss to tell her I'd left and headed to my parents house. No one was there. Since we live super close I drove to the house and Marlin was mowing the yard. He and I jumped back in the car and hurried to the hospital emergancy room. When we got there dad and Jose were in a room. Dad was pretty out of it. He was white as can be. But, he knew who we were. The longer we were there the more he came too. He kept thinking he was dreaming. The problem was his l ow blood sugar. It was quite the experience standing there talking to him. Thank goodness Marlin and Jose were there. I don't know what we would have done if Jose hadn't stopped by the house. We're not sure how long he was there passed out. Could have been a couple of hours! My sister, her kids and my mom were up in Island Park picking huckleberries. They hurried and drove back down. Dad was finally released to go home! It was another reminder for me to 1) Appreciate family, friends, the good things in life.... 2) You have to take care of yourself! My dad has taken care of himself as far back as I remember. When he had to give up running he move to riding a bike and weights. With his healthy heart he's overcome a major heart surgery last Dec and continues to overcome things even now. What a great example he's been to so many people. And, tomorrow's his 83rd birthday!!! |

| | Good run this morning in the AM. Today is my dad's birthday so I wanted to make sure and get the run in because I knew after work we'd all be at mom and dad to eat dinner and cake! After yesterdays event I've been extremely thankful to have his birthday. He's feeling much better. I wish we could figure out a way to stabilize his blood sugar. Part of the problem is he is so active and likes to keep busy. We can't expect him to just sit around, but, I wish it were easier to tell if he's over done it. I wish I had an answer. What an emotion weekend. There's been a ton to deal with between him and 9/11. All I have to say is be greatful! |

| | I started the day by going to my two neices school with my sister and dad. It was Donuts with Dad day so since I had the day off I couldn't miss going. After words my dad and I went to breakfast. He's trying to eat better and more often. Afterwords Marlin and I headed to Utah for TOU. Our hotel was in Tremonton so after checking in we headed for Layton. We took a wrong exit, but, that ended up being alright. We got some tomatoes for canning. Once we got to Layton we found the expo, went to go eat and then the expo had started. Marlin got me a bag and jacket. When we got back to the hotel room we got our things ready for the morning and off to bed. I was glad to get to bed pretty early...around 9pm. |

First off I have to say what a fun race this was. I'm so glad I did not miss out. I was very hesitant because of my first attempt at a marathon in 2009. All I will say about it was that it was a negative experience and has taken alot to get past it. It had been pretty frustrating. And, bottom line I was just mad at myself. This race I had done so much more training and felt 'maybe, just maybe I can do this'. I had only told a couple of people that I was thinking about running it. If it were not for great friends I do not think it would have happened.
Marlin and I got up pretty early because we had to drive to Logan from Tremonton. I wasn't thrilled to get up so early, but, it actually went by pretty quick. Before I knew it we were on the bus headed to the start line. Boy, did it seem like a long bus ride. I was happy to see a big white tent set up for the runners. I knew we had awhile to wait and it had been raining. A few minutes before the race it really started to pour rain. Lots of thoughts going through my head at this point. I tried not to get overwhelmed and reminded myself to have a good run.
I don't have a mile by mile report, but, I know I did what I had set out to do. Stay around a 8:30 pace. I knew I wanted to stay ahead of the 4:00 hour pacer and behind the 3:50 pacer. There was a young kid I ended up running with alot of the way because he was wanting to stay ahead of the 4:00 pacer also. I could not believe how fast the aid stations came up. The race was flying by. Before I knew it we were at mile 10. I was feeling great. I know how I've felt in other races and this was a completely different experience. Before I knew it we were half way and I was happy to see the time - around 1:55. I was still on pace. It had started to rain and I was loving it actually. I loved meeting other runners along the way. When we started to get around mile 16 I wondered if things would start to change for me, but, it was all still pretty good. As we started to get into the residental area I was not sure what would happen. I just kept focused and was happy I was keeping the same pace. When we got around mile 19 & 20 I didn't expect the uphill quite yet. I knew we only had around 6 more miles to go and really wanted to pull this race off under 4 hours. Each mile that went by I was happy I was still feeling pretty strong overall. I had met an older gentleman around mile 13 that had came up to me...as we ran together he said I was a strong runner. I really enjoyed talking to him and thought about what he said towards the last few miles. I was happy to be at mile 23 and wondered if Marlin was finishing. I could see other runners were slowing down, even walking, and knew I did not want to not get caught up with that. It just drove me to focus more. When we got down to the last mile I was getting ready for it to be over. The last half mile is when my legs really started to feel it. I was not going to let them shut down on me. Once I passed the last corner and saw the Finish line the only thing I cared about was FINISHING!!! I passed a few more people at the very end and was EXTREMELY happy to see Marlin right there at the end. What am AMAZING experience and I LOVED every minutes of the race!!!! What a experience to run 26.2 miles in the rain and hail. And I qualified for Boston 2013!!!!!!

Went and ran the river this morning. It was strange because there were so many different people down there. Only saw 1 regular morning walker. I don't like new people usually because it's so early in the morning. There must have been at least 6 new people. Weird morning. I was glad it was a pretty good run at least.

I then tried to run with my sister, but she hasn't run for quite awhile and started to get frustrated so we decided to go opposite directions and meet up later. I was at 7 miles and was then going to walk a lap with my sister around the river, but, long story short it didn't happen. I had actually started to run another lap thinking I would catch up with her, but come to find out she had gone home! So, I ended up running 10 for the day by the time it was all over and done. : ) |

| | I can tell I've eaten alot of junk since my sister's gotten here. Didn't have quite as good of a run this morning. Just felt sluggish. Need to get back to eating normal. I was glad to get a normal 7 miles in before having to go to work. It's been pretty hectic here since my sister, her son and his family has been here. Poor Marlin had to move freezers after dinner. My mom had asked if we wanted to switch because she wanted a smaller freezer and we've been using two. So, now we can just go down to one and she has a smaller one. |

| | I had to take my sister to the airport this morning, so i was up alittle bit earlier than normal. Wish I could get myself to do it every morning. The weather wasn't to bad. I know that wno't last so I'm trying to hold out. Work was a normal day. Found out they're looking for people to work from home, so of course I put in for it. Since there are 3 of us new to the account our boss said we weren't the best choice right now. But, of course I went ahead and put in for it anyway. The other thing going on is my son got back from riding a destroyer for 1 1/2 weeks with his 2 bosses. He got to go from South Korea, ride the ship and ending in Singapore. He had a great time! What an experience. Hopefully they'll go someplace again in a couple of months. Lucky kid! |

Early morning run this morning. The weather was great! I ran into Marlin shortly after I started. He turned around and ran with me for alittle while because there was a strange young kid walking along the river. Every once in awhile it makes me nervious to be running down there. The usual walkers weren't there this morning. I'll need to start thinking about going to the gym. Other than that it was a pretty good run.

Decided to sleep in alittle bit. Once I took off I could see a few people up a ways talking - up around the boat docks on the river. As I got closer they started to also run. Low and behold it was Marlin running with someone. Sure got my attention as they got closer. He was running with the women that came in right behind him in the Pocatello Marathon. After he introduced me to her and we talked for a few minute's he headed south towards the waterfalls and she and I ran north. She was faster than I was and was happy to be keeping up! Long story short we ended up running two loops around the river together. After that I stopped to get a drink at my car and she kept going on. I was shocked I could run with her. When I asked her or pace was 7:37. Later in the day Marlin and I went to the running store and I got a new Garmin watch! Very exciting. Now I'll know my pace again. Still a bummer I lost my other one at TOU.
Around 6pm my sister, her two girls and I went up to Island Park to the cabin. We watched a movie and went to bed. This morning we did the normal routine to close it up for the winter. Sad to close it up for the winter. But, Marlin and I plan on going up in a couple of weeks to bring the boat down. It's just heaven up there. |

After getting home this afternoon from the cabin I really wanted to get out and run alittle. I still don't feel completly well, but wanted to get a few miles in. Plus, I wanted to try my new watch! I think I'm going to like it. Just need to learn all the little things about it. Still don't know how to see my HR. I just ran a couple of loops around the river and felt I'd had enough. I've still been pretty tired. I just feel like I'm coming down with something and it doesn't go away.
I've talked to my parents everyday since they've left for Ariz. They seem to be glad to be there. I like that they will be away from the cold because I know it's coming soon! |

| | Went to the gym this morning. I was glad I got there alittle earlier than normal for a Sat. Had planned on running just the usual run, but talked myself into running 10. I wanted just a few extra miles for the week. I've been slacking when it comes to the miles for week. Felt pretty good throughout the whole run. Afterwards I went and did a few weights and then stretched. I was glad to get a good workout in to finish out the week. The nice thing about finishing when I did is I met someone I had seen in the TOU marathon. I had asked if she'd run it and when we got to talking she said she's run 29 marathons. It was great meeting someone else and hopefully she and I will get together and run. She's going to Boston also! |

I ran down around the river this morning and really enjoyed my run - even with it being 14 degrees. I'm always amazed when I talk to someone who runs outside all year long. Tried to be tough and brave the cold and wind this morning. I was surprised how warm I was. Actually over dressed. But, really enjoyed myself. The last couple of miles there was alittle bit more wind. But, was happy to be outside. Felt bad for Marlin because he hasn't been feeling well. Hope it doesn't get to sick!
My best friend from high school and I have been keeping in touch more lately. I remember lots of fun times causing trouble as a kid. And, I remember the accident we were in where our car rolled 5 times. We were in a voltswagon bug and a car crossed over into our lane as were driving into town. We just kinda lost touch during college. So, it's been great talking and seeing her more. She's started running a few weeks ago!!! Now, just need to get her talked into doing a race in the spring! |

Woke up early and went to the gym after just a few hours of sleep. I was surprised to feel pretty good due to the lack of sleep. It was nice seeing so many regulars at the gym so early. I didn't expect that. After running, stopped by Sports Authority and broke down and bought a spin bike for at home. Marlin had seen it on sale. It was fun meeting up with him at the running store. They were making a breakfast. It was so great running into Jeff, Kami and their kids. |

Marlin woke me up earlier this morning. Made it to the gym just alittle earlier. Overall, it was a good run. Alittle tired. Once I got to 7 miles I knew I wanted to do just alittle bit more. Ended up running 1 more mile. Wanted to make sure and leave some time to stretch before heading home to get ready for work.
Work ended up being pretty busy. Ended up going into two different training classes to teach Quality. It'll be nice when all the trainnings get done. We've been ramping up for the holidays and I think this was the last two classes or we have 1 or 2 more. Dec. will be nice because I'm going to use about PTO that I can't carry over into next year. So, I've got alittle over 40 hours to use up.
Marlin leaves to run the Las Vegas Marathon tomorrow in the afternoon. I had taken the time off to go, but, my parents are flying in tomorrow morning from Ariz. I don't feel right about them getting here in the morning and me leaving that afternoon. So, I'm not going on this LV this trip. I'm excited for Marlin. He'll do great. |

| | I was so glad to get to the gym early this morning. It was great to see Jeff, Andrea, Kami & Lynette. After getting the run done I made sure to take the time and do some weights and stretch. After working out I stopped to pick up my neice a birthday gift. We had a birthday party for her this afternoon. Can't believe she's 10 yrs old! She is amazing. |

| | Today's run was alright overall. Felt alittle less motivated than yesterday. I was able to fit in a couple of weights before having to get ready for work. I had to work a full day today so maybe that's why I didn't feel as motivated. Work ended up being alittle hectic. Ended up having to go into a training class and teach about the Quality Dept. Then had to help out with this project about customer service. |

| | Almost didn't go to the gym this morning....then guilt set in. At first I thought I'll do 5 miles. Don't remember the last time I just ran 5, but made getting up so early not so bad. Once I got there it was great to see everyone. Marlin had just finished his run so I took over his TM. Once I got going it wasn't so bad. Then when I was just past 6 miles Deborah stopped by to say hello before she left. I asked her how many she had done...a question I should not have asked. She ran 8. And, since I had heard a couple of other people's mileage I thought um, better not slack then. Finished with 8 miles and a quarter mile cooldown. Finished with alittle bit of stretching and back home to get ready for work. |

| | Well, the day didn't start out the best. Slept in just alittle bit, but got up and ready to go pretty quick. When I went out to leave.....a dead battery in the car! Good thing for Marlin coming back home to get it going for me. I was glad I didn't have to do it myself. Once I got to the gym did a normal run at a 8:20 - 8:34 pace. After a couple of weights and stretching I was ready to go. Then, I saw Deborah (again). She had come back to do the yoga class. I was glad she talked me into doing it. My hips have been hurting for quite awhile (weeks....). I could tell a difference after the class. I think I'll go to the 7am class tomorrow again. Spent the rest of the day shopping. Good day! |

I wasn't sure if I'd go to the gym this morning because I woke up not feeling the best. I decided to go and see how it went. It was pretty good and just tried to take it easy. It was another day off so I spent it running a couple of errands and then watched my two niece's. They got to finish with frosting cookies we'd made yesterday. They were home because their little Shitzu died yesterday and they were still having a super hard time. I sure hope they can bouce back and start feeling better.
I'm pretty excited because our local news is going to do their little segment of 'Our American Hero' on my nephew this Friday. He's currently serving in Afghanistan. |

| | Went to the gym this morning. Felt just so so. I can tell I don't feel super good. I was glad I could do the 8 miles. After the gym, went to work. First day back after a four day weekend. Good thing was that after work I got to go see my hairdresser. She's so great. Then I got to finish out the day helping my sister move a couple of loads of stuff from her moving out of her house. You never know how much stuff you have until you go to move. Even with it being frustrating at times I'm very glad I was able to be there for her and to help. It's been one of those things I didn't necessarly want to do, but I know it was the right thing to do. Overall, it was a good day. |

Had a good run in the AM. Just the typical run and then off to work.
It was alot of fun doing the group run in the evening with everyone. Ran around some good neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights. I enjoyed meeting a couple of new people. With the different paces of runners have to give a 'big thanks' for the fast runners for slowing it down for everyone. It was kinda nice doing a casual run. |

| | Nice run this morning and then off to Pilates. I've done yoga before, but never Pilates. I thought it was alright. Didn't get that much out of it, but I'm sure it was because I wasn't doing it as well as I could have. I'm signed up for next weekends class, so will see how that one goes. |

| | Woke up VERY early this morning - 3:45am. I thought only crazy people woke up this early. I'm not sure how Marlin does it everyday. But, I do have to say it was nice being at the gym early. Saw Jeff first thing which was nice. It was great seeing Kami, Deborah, Andrea and Kevin early also. Ran 10 miles. Got tired the last couple of miles. Not sure if it was from getting up early or the extra miles. Finished with a couple of weights and stretching. Getting a few things done around the house and then off to finish errands and shopping. |

| | It sure was alot of fun running this morning. Walked upstairs at the gym and saw a line of great runners. I headed for my favoriate TM, but, Marlin had saved me a TM down over by everyone else. What a great husband saving me a spot by all the speedy runners. It's so great to be able to run with everyone. Sure made it fun this morning. As everyone was finishing I was able to get my run in with 10.5 miles. It was nice seeing Alana as I was finishing up. Hope everyone has a great day and is ready for tomorrow. Had a great morning hanging out at home this morning. Matt, Mitch and Tayson came out to hang out alittle while and eat breakfast. I had told my sister (Kelly) I'd go with her to help at the soup kitchen or nursing home. We'd talked about doing something different this year that we've never done. I ended up missing the soup kitchen, but met up with her at an assisted living place. She, I, a friend of hers (Hal) and his 5 year old daughter (Ella) went to Fairwinds in town. We had taken a basket of candy canes and candy with us. There were quite a few residents in the dining hall because they were just finishing serving lunch. We just walked around and said hello to everyone. They got a kick out of Ella.
On my way into town I had passed someone out running. So, when I got back home I went out for a 5.25 mile run. Just took it pretty easy. It was nice to be outside. Time to hang out for the rest of the day. Watch tv and eat! |

| | Managed to get up to get to the gym pretty early. Saw Curt already there and running. Marlin didn't work today so he was able to go in alittle later. When I started out I felt alittle tired. After a few miles I increased my pace and the run got earlier. Kept it at 8:34 and 8:27 for awhile. Marlin showed up just alittle later. Towards the end went to 8:13 just to get it finished. Had to hurry home and get ready for work. |

Broke down and did intervals today. It's been almost forever since I've done them! I'd been thinking about it for alittle while and decided today was the day. It actually wasn't to bad. Finished with a couple of weights. Off to home and get ready for work.

Just another day at the gym this morning. But, not to many people were there. Found it alittle hard to run today. Not sure if it was because I was tired or running next to Marlin. He was tired from yesterday too, so we'd talk and I'd lose my focus. Was fun running next to him though.
Yesterday we got two more Christmas packages in the mail. One from Marlin's sister. She'd sent me a book by Kathrine Switzer - Marathon Women. She'd gone to listen to her in Rapid City in Oct. I'm looking forward to reading the book. And, then my sister sent me a plaque from TOU. Can't believe we did that.
Now off to getting ready for work. Hope eveyone has a good day. |

I can't believe I didn't get up and run this morning. My hip was really bugging me yesterday so I did a few stretches this morning before going to work. I packed my gym bag because I wanted to go to the gym after work. Then I got to live with the guilt throughout the day of not going in the AM.
I have to say I do like the mornings better, but it was alittle nice not feeling rushed or knowing I just had a certain amount of time. As I was finishing up my 8 miles I saw Alana. After talking to her for a few min's I finished with some stretching and then off to go home. |

I'm glad I went to the gym early this morning. First thing I saw Marlin and Lynette. Deborah showed up alittle bit later. And, even later Jeff and Curt showed up.
Didn't plan on running much more than 7 miles. But, decided to go 8, then 8.5 and then Marlin suggested going 10. I had been thinking about it earlier so decided to go ahead and do it. I had planned on using that extra time for stretching and weight, but I was still able to get some stretching done before heading off to work. So glad it's Friday! |

Well, it's the end of the year. Finished with a normal 7.25 mile run on the TM. Afterwards I went and did a few weights and then stretched. Ran home, did a few things and headed back in for a Pilates class at 10am. Afterwards I went and ran a few errands. Came home and cleaned around the house the rest of the day. Finished with making my homemade yogart and eating dinner. Now time to relax for the rest of the day. Tomorrow a day off from running. Since I ran Christmas Day I think it's been about 13 days since I've taken a day off. No wonder I've been alittle tired the last couple of days.
I've been thinking about things I learnt from running this last year. Some of the things I've figured out is there is a wide range of training programs. What works for someone doesn't mean it's going to work for someone else. Marlin and I drive each other nuts sometimes with what we're both doing. j/k. Next thing is stretching and weights are important and nutrition is more important than I thought.
I was able to run from Seattle, WA to Cleveland, OH this year. Hope next year is as good as this year for everyone...or even better!!! |
