Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Sub 40:00 10K
  • 2:59 Marathon
  • 1:25 Half Marathon
  • 18:30 5K

Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

5.71 mi, 00:51, 08:56 pace

Not too bad for a Monday morning. Slow warm up building up to a reasonable pace. Perfect, nice cool weather this morning.

A little bit of foot pain towards the end of the run, but I think I'll be ok. I'm grateful for being able to run and starting a new week

Nice run with Striders. Ran with Kim L. for first mile or so. Sped up a bit in second half but stayed comfortable. Foot was one notch better today. Re-laced shoes using Lydiard method as suggested by Sean K. - I think it helped.

Started out the morning with my first spin class ever. It was tough and I sweated a lot - it was pouring off of me. 10 minutes into the class and I wasn't sure how I was going to make it through. Got through it somehow and felt energized afterward. Thanks Nancy R. for a great class! Nice seeing Beka and Andrea also.

3 mi 00:26 08:30 pace

Decided to go for a short run after getting back from spin class. Legs felt pretty good, although I should have fueled a little before the run.

6.06 mi 00:52 08:34 pace

Ran with Eudair from start to finish and then also with Michelle H. for the second half of the run. A little bit foggy and dark but a good run overall.

Unfortunately, had some foot pain within the first mile, it didn't get too bad but kind of a bummer that it came back, I thought it was gone.

16.02 mi , 02:17, 08:31 pace

5:30 meet up at Longleaf with Eudair, tatoo Mike, Bob, and Andrea, ran to Diane's house for refreshments and picked up Diane, Craig, and Renee.

Into the park for a bit more then return trip with Eudair.

Stopped to look up at a very large owl in a tree surrounded by three crows with the owl hooting very loudly at the crows and the crows cawing back, not sure what was going on.

My foot held up pretty well and the weather was cooperative.  I was ready to cut the run short if I had to but fortunately I started out the run with no foot pain, had a little bit of pain from miles 2-4 then it felt better for the rest of the run.  Felt good after the run, too.  Decisions, decisions, sometimes not sure whether to completely rest or just ease back a bit, easing back a bit has worked so far this time.

I had planned on doing some off road miles once we got into the park, but was pretty nice just to stay on the level surface of the bike path and also got to say hi to a bunch more people.

Next Saturday, just a shorter run, probably mostly off road and then the big race one week after that, back to Croom for 50 miles.  The dark miles starting out will be challenging and then once the sun comes up I hope the heat will hold off as long as possible
