I wanted to wait and write this up after I got my
official time however the half marathon times are all messed up. The
gun time for everyone is three minute longer than the chip time and the chip
time looks to be the gun time. My official time is listed as 1:50:39 I
know I ran it faster than that. My Garmin shows me at 1:49:55 but I
forgot to turn it off right away. This wouldn't be so bad except I am
very close to a pr and I wanted to see if I had reached it. Oh well that is how it goes.
I was pretty sad getting ready to run this race. Cristy and Kim had not signed up for it in
time, and almost everyone I knew was running the full. I got up drove myself to the bus pick up and
really felt lonely. I chatted with some
people on the bus but it was just not the same as being with my sisters.
At the start I just hung around by myself until I ran in to
Mark Owens, I latched on to his group and was totally happy to see a face I
knew. Mark and I ran the first few miles
together but I could tell he was going a little faster than I wanted to go so I
let him leave. I was on my own for the
rest of the race. I didn’t print up a
pace chart I was just going to run by feel.
I was pretty proud of how I gutted out the last 6 miles of Boston and I
wanted to run this race hard enough so that I could feel that way at the end of
this race too. By the half way point I
was feeling really great so I tried to push harder. With 5 miles left I knew if I could just stay
under 9 minute miles the rest of the way I could PR. I was mentally in this race like never before
and I knew I could do it. I just wish I
had an official time to confirm it.
The best part of the race was waiting for the marathoners to
come in and see all my friends at the finish line!
