I drove to Orem, stayed with my mom and Kimmy.  I wanted to run 16 miles, at mile 9.5 my leg started to hurt again out of nowhere.  We had  3.5 miles to go just to get home.  We played it safe and just walked those miles.  By the end of the 13 miles my leg was really bothering me even though I had taken 800 mg of Advil.  The drive home was the worse part I had a hard time keeping pressure on the gas petal.  When I was almost home I remembered that I had cruse control silly me!  I iced my leg all day and today (Sunday) it feels a lot better.

I do have to say that the best part of the run was the 3.5 mile walk with Kim.  We laughed and talked like we used to when we didn't care about our times.  I know that I am very competitive and not keeping track of my times will be hard but that is what I am going to do from now on.  I have been to Boston twice and if I never go back I am totally OK with that.  Starting Monday I run for fun and fun only.  That doesn't mean I wont push myself because, seeing how good you can be is fun.   I just don't care any more how fast I am and if I don't meet a time goal I won't beat myself up over it (how fun is that!!!!)

I am also going to start to go back to my spinning classes.  I have always loved spinning but I have cut back only going once a week so I can run more.  I am now going to run 3-5 miles before spin and then go to class at lease 3 times a week.  If I am slower, so be it I will be happier!!! (Yea me!!!!)

I have also decided to only run a few more marathons.  If I get into Boston this year I will run it again.  I will run St. George until 2014 when I get into the 10 year club. After that I think I will run a half marathons several times a year until I die or can't run anymore.

This is my plan for now and my main goal for St. George this year has gone from 3:45 to having a blast!!!!!  I am so looking forward to trying to reach this goal!!!!  If you see some slow runner with a smile on their face it is most likely to be ME!!!!!

Kathie...I see you took our conversation on Saturday and thought about it all weekend. I have enjoyedthe last few times of running with you, that is what makes running fun. I miss all our time together. I know you are going through a tough time right now with your leg..but things will get better.

I think you are wise to do your spin class...do what makes you happy, not what you think you have to do; to be fast...

Look forward to this weekend :)

I love your plan!!! Way to go!!!

I have pretty much given up on trying to be fast. I want to enjoy my races, too.

Just don't become as slow as I am. LOL

I hope you can get your leg healed up. I think you can with less running and more spinning.

Kathie ~ I am so happy to hear you and Kimmy had a nice sister run-walk-talk-time together! I have learned that PRs and awards are nice, but spending time doing the things you love with those you love is PRICELESS!

I am so happy that you are finding JOY in running! Happiness is really a choice, a state of mind! I know it's hard to find joy when you are dealing with pain and injury. But you are making a conscious choice, a sound plan...you are doing awesome!!!

Oh I am selfishly excited that you have changed your 3:45 time constraint to having a blast! :) Now perhaps I can jump on your party wagon at SGM?!!

We have to make running fun or we won't stick with it. What we define as fun evolves throughout our running life. Glad you have found what makes you happy.
