Dogntown 9k today, 6.65 miles total (2 mile warm up, 9k race (If you can even call it that), 1 mile cool down).
I did a 2 mile warm up with Brigham then we lined up for the race. Brigham was doing the 5k so I stayed a little behind him for the first mile, I passed the 1 mile mark at 5:31 which might have been a little fast but I felt really good. I crossed the 2 mile mark at 11:07 so that mile was more on pace but still a little fast, still feeling really good though. Just after the 2 mile mark, there was an intersection with a volunteer there to direct us. I remembered the race map I looked at and thought we kept going straight, but just as I got halfway through the intersection, the volunteer told me I had to go left, but there was a sign with an arrow going forward. I decided to listen to the volunteer and turned left, which was a bad mistake because it turns out we were supposed to go forward so I ended up a whole 2 miles short of a 9k. I finished 1st but before I was misdirected left after the 2 mile mark, there was one guy a little less than a 1/4 mile ahead of me who must have known the course and kept going straight, so I probably would've finished 2nd had I not been misdirected, because the next guy behind me was almost finished almost a minute after me. So when they were handing out awards, I thought I would get the award for 2nd overall, but I didn't get anything. They never even apologized to the people they misdirected. I was really upset about that because they didn't start directing people in the right way until I got back and told them, so a lot of people got screwed over.
In other news, my sister Darian took first in the 5000m at the Great West Conference championships, so that was cool. |
