Ran with Troy in the snowy surroundings.  Sunny thankfully.   Nice easy run.  A scenic route, with good uphill in the middle ending on a downhill around my neighborhood.  Troy not up for much mileage and mom in town so short run today.  Plans for a 17 miler tomorrow.  Did I just write that?  Not sure if it will really happen.  Work Friday and Saturday night, again.  Getting down to the wire on when to get this long run in.  More marathon pace runs planned for next week and two weeks before.  Yay!!!  Pace 8:38 for just 3:43 miles.  Last 1/2 mile 7:40 pace.  Feeling real comfortable at 7:40 so I hope I can manage that pace at the Ogden Marathon which puts me at 3:22!!  Who knows if that is possible on a much flatter course.  I need some input on how to run Ogden????

You got in some great runs this week despite the "Sprinter" weather we've had lately. GOOD LUCK on your 17 miler tomorrow. WOW, it's tough doing long runs with working double shifts on the weekend.

I wish I could give you input on how to run Ogden. It is a nice course. I ran it in 2007 and 2008. The temp was in the 80's at finish both years. Wish they would start the race earlier. The only suggestion I could offer is: save your legs for the downhill in the canyon around mile 18. If you run a conservative pace or stick with your game plan the first 16 miles, you will be able to take advantage of the downhill. Be aware that the roads are not close to traffic; so it was hard to do the tangents. Bear in mind that there are runners doing the Half, the Relay; so lots of distractions. The parkway trail can get crowded and the last mile + in town and on Grant St. is not shaded and can get hot; so be sure to hydrate. I think your 3:22 is totally achievable. You're a GREAT runner. GOOD LUCK! Hope to see you in Ogden.

i agree with smooth, save some for the end of the race...if you are feeling good, those downhill miles after mile 16 will just fly by. be conservative at the start...it's tempting to take off because it is slightly downhill and fast. BUT then you hit the big hill right before you begin your descent out of the canyon, and you need another gear to get over it while still maintaining pace. they usually give out bubble gum right before the hill...it's a good distraction to chew on if your stomach can tolerate it. best of luck with the rest of your training. i will see you at ogden!
