Finally got out about 11:00. Did 6 miles on parkloop x2. It was freakin cold and the little breeze made it colder. It was pretty icy and snowy, so I kept it pretty slow. Achilles felt awesome tho. It kinda tightened up at about 4 miles in, but nothing crazy. Woohoo! HAPPY NEW YEAR :))

7 miles pretty easy. I felt like I was pushing hard but pace doesnt show it. Achilles felt soooo good.

I hate running in the snow. There is no winning. You can’t run in the street or you’ll get hit, you can’t run on the edge of the road cuz it’s combination of a sloshy and hard and new snow and slick from the cars driving on it. And you can’t run on the sidewalk cuz there’s 6 inches of powder on them. It’s the worst. I just ended up running on the sidewalk. It kinda feels like running though the sand. Maybe I would tolerate it more if I would have had to run in the snow before. But I never really have and it just makes for a cold run. 12 degrees when I went out. 

Pm- 2.25 miles. Just chilled and it was lovely :))

Achilles felt great through 3 miles no pain at all. and then all of a sudden a sharp pain hit. Idk what’s going on or what to do. Cut my loop short and now it feels fine waking around.

70 minutes aquajogging today. 10 minute warm, 1,1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1,1 with equal recovery. It was rlly hard, 6ish cool. I thought I liked aquajogging alright, but it’s a whole different experience when you’re the only person in the pool for over an hour lol 

There were no belts so I did it he majority of it just holding a kick board. I tried the first one minutes with nothing and tried to hold myself up and it Was so difficult. After about 30 seconds of the second one, I thought I was gonna drown so I stuck with the kickboard.

6 miles easy with the team. First day of practice and it was nice to be back. No Achilles pain. Didn’t realize how tight my calves were. I knew they were a little and I’ve been working them, but they were soooo much tighter than I realized. On the mend tho!

6 minute test. Going in, i was a little worried, but excited. I felt like i trained good over the break, but was nervous beucase i also took more days off than i wanted to due to my stupid achilles. Anyways, through almost 3 laps i was with a large chunk of the girls, and then i started getting tired. i pushed but lost contact with the group. ended up finishing 1710, which isnt quite where i wanted to be, but with the given circumstances, i will take it. I was 10 meters farther than last year, which actually makes me happy beucase, before i read my blog from last year, i thought i didnt improve at all. Im excited to see what i can do.

2 miles to Main Street and home. Kept it chill. Retired my favorite shoes this morning. Discovered they were the root to the pain in the ball of my foot a while ago. 

6 miles on dikes. Part with everyone, part with just Alison. Kept a good pace, 7:24 average. Achilles felt good through 4 miles and then started hurting. 

Some scraping today, with stem and icing. Not tons of pt cuz it was hurting quite a bit

mile warm, and then 4x1000 with 3 minute recovery. a mile(ish) cool. 

So i just did a short warm becuase coach told me to cut back miles again cuz my stupid achilles. anyways, i got back and was just talking to coach, and he told me that me and sam were almost on the record board for the 6 minute test (which is the best 25ish people ever since hes been coaching). It was kinda fun talking to him, becuase sometimes i forget that if i was on the team literally any year before i got here, i would have been one of the faster girls. We also talked about mileage goals for when im healthy. I dont want to get too excited, cuz first i have to get (and stay) healthy, but im a little excited knowing that coach wants me around and has future thoughts about me on the team. 

We split into two groups and i was in the 5k group, which makes me happy. its kinda hard cuz all the girls near my speed are in the 1500 group, but it will be soooooo good for me. We had 7k's with 3 minute recovery but i did a half workout as to not put too much stress on my achilles becuase i actually want it to heal. It honestly felt really good so thats a relief.  I started wayyy too fast and by the fourth one i was dying. 3:30, 3:38, 3:40, 3:50. I need to figure out a good strategy for me personally. I can hang with the group for a few repeats and then completely die and hopefully get better every time, or start slower at my own pace, and be consistent the whole workout. I need to figure out how coach wants me to do it. anyways, it was an overall good workout.

drills, and then a mile warm and 5 miles @ 60%. quite possibly one of the best workouts of my college career. Coach split us into two groups. My group was Morgan, Haley, Sam, Brighton, Me, Sarah. our goal pace was 6:25-35. we averaged 6:28. Not only was i with the group the whole time, i even lead the group for alot of it. I ended up just a few seconds behind sam, morgan and brighton, but they picked it up at the end and i just kept it consistent. Anyways, it was soooo good and im so happy with it! cooled a mile

achilles excercises, and then weights. its the hard week of the rotation, which is good, just hard. 

we have 3-4 days of effort this week, but im going to be cautious. I will not do it if i am gonna end up injured. i am gonna stay healthy, even if that means im gonna stay slow. No more of this injury bs, it makes me soooo ornery when i cant run because of stupid stuff

tough workout today. mile warm and then strides and a 3k. the first 5 laps of the 3k were really solid. like a little too solid, then i died kinda hard, but it was still a good effort. ended up hitting 11:3x, idk the actual second. then a lap. and 6x400, 5x300, 3x200. the 400's were tough but still a good effort. 76-77 average, and just a bit off the main group, usually with haley. the 300's were really good. i was with the main group the whole time and hit 59 on most of them. the 200s were really hard, which was a bummer cuz usually those are my favorite haha. it feels good to be working on leg speed again tho! little less than a mile cool to get to 7.5. 

sooooo sore today. 

Not doing the workout tomorrow, which i think is a good call on my part. I want to stay healthy, and i think that building my mileage slowly and doing a zillion workouts at the same time is not the best call for me. I am glad that i feel confident enough talking to coach about what is smart for me without feeling like he is thinking i am just trying to get out of stuff. I hope it pays

Wasn’t gonna do the workout, but I’m not racing this weekend, and I’m glad I did it. Me and coach decided on three days of effort this week. Started with mile warmup and then 3 miles at fast 50% (6:55,6:56,7:30 around the parking lot by the hill). Then 1x700 m hill in 3:10 (that was supposed to be a 400). Only 4 of us even went all the way up, cuz everyone just stopped for whatever reason. Then 10x15 second hill sprints, followed by a 400 meter uphill in 1:44, right with Morgan, Madison and Haley.. I love the long up hills, it seems so easy to just keep a steady pace all the way up, and it’s so fun to be one of the best girls at it. The shorter sprints were a little harder. I think part of that is the fact that I haven’t done anything fast, fast in a year. I think it will come, it will just take a little bit of working at it. 

Easy in weights today. Just 2 sets of everything:)) lots of rolling, and strengthening stuff with the trainers.

Pm- 6 with Haley and Sarah. It was soooo unbelievably windy. It was very difficult to run and sometimes I felt like I wasn’t moving. 7:40 avg which is good considering the first few miles haha. It felt sooo good to chill.

I have been so tired all day. i came home from class and literally did nothing for 3 hours before we met to run at 2.

ran 6 with brigton and sam behind the rest of the girls. i was exhausted. we averaged 7:53 pace and it was the hardest run ever. both of them thought so too. i was planning on 7 miles but thought it would be less beneficial to do so.

woke up at 8ish and drove to st george for the weekend planning to run there. knew i needed to go 10-12 miles today depending on how my legs were feeling considering they have felt pretty crappy the last few days. 

anyways pretty much the best long run of my life. it didnt even feel like 12 miles (it probs would have in cedar lol cuz idek where to run 12 miles). 7 with my dad and scottie, bathroom break and then 5 more with bent on his bike. it was soo good and rlly fun. 7:36 avg.

For sure red shirting becuase, yeah. there is a lot of good girls and id get to race once. feel like i should maybe get a chance over a few not healthy girls, especially because ive been doing really great, but its fine. hopefully it all works out in the end. I just wanna be fast. 

lololol before weights (which was a beast tbh) julieta did this old wives tale that her mom taught her with a ring and a hair, that apparently is really acurate (who actually knows lol), but according to it, i will have 2 children and they will both be boys. but dont worry, neither of them are in the near future. thank heavens.

Elizabeth Smart came today and spoke for sexual assault awareness week. It was really interesting to hear her story and everything that has gone on in her life.

Just disapointed that every time i start to get heatlhy, fit, and fast, and coach starts believing in me, I somehow start sucking again. At least my achilles was feeling ok.

6 miles. mile warm, 3@ 60%, around 6:27ish pace i would say. then cool to 6. it felt decent but i am not in awesome shape rn so it was hard. definitely backed off the pace of the other girls cuz they were hauling at the beginning, but i ended up staying the same distance behind basically the whole time and gained (and passed) some by the time we were finishing. Just happy i was able to push the whole time, even though i was alone. that in itself is a win cuz im not the best at that

slept a really lot last night. like one of those nights where your head hits the pillow and your out til morning. woke up at 8 cuz i was supposed to go get taped by drew, but it snowed, alison bailed, and i was tired, so we pushed taping back til 12. i fell back asleep until 11:30 and honestly probs could have slept wayyyy longer. then martha and my bros and her kids all were up here and came and visited for a while so i didnt get out til like 1:30 and holy hannah, it was an awful run. I felt so tired and my legs were heavy and i kept it so slow and still felt AWFUL. about 4 miles in i just stopped on the trail for like 10 minutes contemplating why the HECK i was torturing myself lol. anyways, finished the run and im tired.

8 with Haley at 11:00. Starting our run I felt ok, but legs felt kinda heavy. Haley said “I’m tired we can go your pace today”. Hahaha That means A slow pace, but it’s fine. Anyways, the whole time we both kept saying we were kinda tired and we were just gonna chill. Which I honestly felt like we were going pretty chill, I was just tired or somethin. Anyways, got back and checked my pace and we definitely were going like 7:20 avg. our downhill miles were 6:40. That’s the fastest I’ve ran since my whole Achilles ordeal. i have to get glasses cuz my eyes dont focus from close to far very good cuz my eyes strain really hard while reading close up. They are red and they will be here in a few weeks and i actually like them. Ive never found glasses that i have really liked before, so thats lit. 

i also have 2 cavities so i have to go to the dentist again on thursday. yipee

pm-7.7 miles on the river trail. forced myself to chill cuz i need to chill sometimes. It was a dope run and it was sooooo warm. like almost hot haha

Warm, 80%. I was really kinda nervous cuz I really haven’t done anything but mileage in about a month. Coach set our paces and I was gonna try for the slowest end, which would be about 60% pace. Anyways, started and just decided to hang with Morgan and Haley as long as possible. They did some laps with a few barriers so I figured it was a good goal. I stuck pretty close to them the whole time and I felt really good through the whole thing. Lost contact about 2 miles in but I kept pushing and ended up beating my 80% pr by 24 seconds making it 18:34. I even felt like there was more there. Super excited for outdoor. The hills were a beast after but I pushed through. I really have like negative speed st this point so I was very far behind but it was good for me.

Oooh. My gosh. Its so rainy today and fetching windy and i have a cold and I am so over this weather. But we had a 60%, we couldnt do the usual route because it was so rainy. So we did it at Bicent. it was literally the worst thing ever. On the down hill, it was so easy to go fast. but the uphill got you sooooo hard. there were points when i was running up the hill and i was going 9 minute pace becuase it was so windy. Anways, it was definitely a 60 based on feel and not pace. 

Bright side: only 4 of us finished and i was one of them and i wasnt even that far behind haley or madison (but she started after us lol), anyways, it was fine.

Wellll, they are tearing down our house in july so i have to move. i hate moving and i was really kinda pissed this morning cuz i looooove our house. but turns out they are placing in a wayyyyy better one and its connected to christians (cuz his house accross the street is also being demolished) which is dope cuz im glad we are moving by them still, i love everyone in that house. its a little farther from campus but brand new remodelled and no one has lived there yet and its furnished and i have a king bed soooo i cant complain. just upset i have to drive to campus now... alison and haley were gonna move in anyways but now we all still get to live together AND we dont have to live with my less cool roomates. I love the 5k. It was a great start to the season and I’m excited to build off of it. 18:00, which was the exact goal lol. 17:22 through 3 miles. Came through 3200 in 11:26 which is a 3200 pr by 6 seconds. Excited to race again. I need to stop setting goals that are possibly limiting because I’m capable of hitting them. Last meet I hit exactly what I wanted in the 1500, this meet exactly what I wanted in the 18:00. I need I start hanging in workouts because clearly I am capable of it. I just needed a race like today to prove it to myself I think.

sidenote: I should probs start taking iron consistently. i suck at it cuz i hate the taste of the liquid and idk if the pill is effective. and it makes me nervous beucase i feel like some people take soooo much iron that their bodies now dont how to produce or absorb iron on their own. I feel like if i start taking it all the time, i might enduce problems that i would not have had if i just dont, so idk what to do.

New shoes!

8 miles total. 2 warm and then 12x40 with 300 meter jog between. Seriously made up for my terrible workout Tuesday and mediocre one yesterday. I’m definitely getting fitter and my last 2 workouts (although not my slowest) have not shown my improvements. I hung with the group the whole time and lead every other one until the last set of 4. Hit 82,84,81,81,77,79,77,75,75,77,77,78. They were in sets of 4, the first ones being between 80-84, 75-79 and 71-78. I was in range the whole time and only fell off the group the last 3!!!!!

On one K and one 400 I was right with Morgan Haley and Julieta. The rest I was in front of them, and most of the 400’s I was just off of Madison. I’m getting fit and I know it and I’m so freaking excited about it. I need patience, but I just want to be fast soooo bad. So excited for Azusa this weekend!! 8 miles on end of the world. it was rainy and a bit windy so coach told us to run out and he would pick us up. to be honest, i dont like that run much. Its all flat/downhill, which is nice, but its literally a straight road for 8 miles and there are no turns and nothing cool to look at. my legs just get tired and my mind gets bored. 

heat sheets FINALLY came out for Azusa and Im in heat 8 racing at 10:40 pm. So basically 11:40 lol. Im seriously so pumped. I feel like i am fit and i just need to trust that i am and go for it. Cuz if i just race scared im never going to push myself and never going to realize what i am capable of.

Oh my gosh! Such a fun race! I felt good getting going and was consistent. Our race was kinda inconsistent but I did my best to keep my pace and was up front leading which was nice. Came through 3k in 10:36 and 3200 in 11:21. Started to tighten up around 6 laps to go, but took the lead of our pack with an NAU girl, we reeled in this girl who took off and I kept the pace steady after that. I felt good, but it was hard good, not quite so smooth as the last time. Finished in 17:48 which is a 12 second PR! I finished Stronger too with my last mile being 7 seconds faster than last time! Excited to keep it rollin. Coach Houle seems to be happy with me as well and I’m super excited about that! Finished 4th? Maybe 5th. Idk. Also I like racing late I decided. It’s just hard to wait til 11:00 pm (12:00 am Utah time) to race cuz usually I’m long asleep by then

I really wanted to drop but after 4 paul told me to slow down a bit at the beginning and just finish the workout. Ive had 6-7 really good workouts as well as multiple great races in a row and he said it was about time that a crappy one came along. Anyways. I finished the workout and although it may not have been great, was mentally a win today. Finishing tough, and awful workouts like that are sometimes the most rewarding cuz it teaches me to be tough. 

anyways sometimes i hate having practice before the guys, beucase depending on how our workout goes, coach changes it for the guys. That happened today and none of the 5k/10k guys had to do the k's, they got to do the fast workout and i am JEALOUS.

got out good, one girl took off and no one else was even coming. i thought i had gone out way too hard, but when we crossed the line, we had come through in an 80, which is slower than i had wanted to. the first lap i tried to be careful so i didnt get boxed in, but i realized no one was gonna come up with me, so i just went to the inside of the lane. Then of course 3 u of u girls came right around me so i couldnt get out. i stayed with them for the rest of the race, but i felt so good and wanted to get going a little during the 3rd lap. finally basically stopped, got around them and passed them all with 200 to go. It was a 3 second PR and converts to about a 5:11, but i felt like there was so much more. I guess now i know for next time
