I have finished a 5K and 10K. As I am new to running, I don't have a lot of highlites at this point. Hopefully this will change

10K 59:30 Short-Term Running Goals: First build back up to running thirty minutes at a time. 5K October 30 -- Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
10k in November -- Butch Cassidy race in Springdale.
I would like to build a solid base over the next 6 - 12 months. I hope to run in either 5K or 10K races through the next year and perhaps one 1/2 marathon (depending on how my body responds to training).
I would like to see how fast and far my 40 + year old body is capable of running. Long-Term Running Goals: Over the next 10 years I want to run consistently to maintain health and to enjoy a sport that challenges me. Personal: I have a wonderful marriage of 20+ years and have four children who are the light of my life. They range in age from 19 - 12 . . . two girls and two boys. Two of my children are interested in running. Sierra and Zac are both participating on the Pine View XC Team.

| | PM Run. I hadn't planned on running tonight. I found out a couple of days ago that it was PVXC run athon and that friends and family were invited to run from 6 - 7 PM. Soo Jill, Ben, and I supported Zachary and Sierra and went for a run. I had to work until 6 so I was a little late getting there. Sierra is a fast runner. Used to be that she thought I was fast. She has grown and is doing a great job. The PVXC team has grown and is doing great. It was great to see so many people out running. Jon

| | PM -- Cardio work out. Gave my legs a break from running and went to Golds Gym. Twenty minutes on the Eliptical, and twenty-five minutes on the stationary bike. Enjoyed the work out I was up at 0730 this morning. I cleaned off Sierra's car windows, and mowed the front lawn. Jill, Ben and I then mowed the lawns at the condos, and at Grandpa Shorts place. It has been a physically active day.

| | AM Run. I woke up late this morning as I did not have to work. Ran my fifth set of 3 minute running 2 min walking. At the end of the thirty minutes I walked a little longer to make a forty five minute work out. Nice temperatures this morning PM -- As a family we went to Zions to Hike. We hiked the upper emerald pools, and had a wonderful time. At the end of he hike my legs and joints were tired and sore. Jon

AM -- I ran this morning for the department PT testing. I am glad that I have been working at it the last couple of weeks. The run would have been miserable. After the 1.5, I did another 1.5 + for a total thirty-five minute work out. Felt good. Bench was 185, Jump 25", Situps 37, and pushups were 40. |

AM Run after staff meeting. Ran for about twenty-five minutes and then experimented with a beginner cross fit exercise. My run fel realy good today. My legs are getting stronger and my lungs are feeling in better shape. Can't wait for my body to continue to respond to my efforts to train. I am also looking forward to the 5K on Saturday.
The WOD was as follows
Eight rounds of twenty seconds of work and 10 seconds rest for:
Pushups, Sit ups and squats. I only finished five rounds due to being burned out and out of time. I kind of liked the challenge.

AM Race. Ben and I ran together and enjoyed a good race. His ankle hurt mid way through the race. We ran the first 1.25 miles without stopping and then we stopped periodically through the rest of the race. I am pleased with myself for accomplishing this goal. My next goal will be either a 5K at the end of October, or the Butch Cassidy 10K in November. Between now and then I will continue running, and I will begin incorporating some Crossfit workouts. On every minute, do 3 Burpees until finished with the five rounds. This workout was a lot more difficult that I thought it would be. It took me 30 minutes and I didn't get all the sets of Burpees in as I got tired watching the clock. Again a new level of soreness.

I enjoyed watching the Region Cross Country meet yesterday. Both Zac and Sierra ran. This was Sierra's last region meet and she ran an outstanding race. I felt proud of both.

AM run -- Zac and I nearly slept through and missed the workout this morning. Sierra woke us both . . . . thx Sierra. I am feeling stronger as I am now running up to eight minutes at a time. I am taking fewer walking breaks, and those breaks are for shorter periods of time. My ankles are still sore . . . probably the worst part of my body at the moment. I am grateful to be running.

AM Run. Zac and I went up to the school to run. 1 mile warm up, 1 mile sprinting the straight ways, and walking the corners, and 1.25 miles running stadiums. I pulled a muscle in my calf and hamstring while sprinting and it is a little sore to walk on. Nice workout. Coldest morning yet this fall.
Some of the weight loss is undoubtedly water weight. I am a little dehydrated today.

AM Run -- I ran at home with Sierra. Zac, I think, has given up the morning workout at the Gym. This morning was a nice easy run. Sierra felt a little sick at the mid way point, but then felt better and was able to finish the run. It was nice to be able to run with her again.

AM Run -- Tried to get Sierra to run with me this morning. She, however, had planned an afternoon run with her friends. It was cold this morning. I have a hard time getting out the door and into the cold. Once there, I really enjoyed my run. Ran my usual four mile route.

AM Run. I ran my usual route this morning. I got out later than I wanted -- 0630. I would have liked to been out running by 0500. Ran 2.0 miles straight. Small walking break in the second 2 miles.

| | AM Run. I slept in this morning. Jill and I went to Washington Elementary to pick up produce, and then I ran home. Ran without stopping. I was disappointed to learn that the distance wasn't 3. I would have liked to say I ran a 5 k this morning. Nevertheless, my endurance has improved and I am happy with my follow through and commitment. |

| | AM Run -- I slept in again this morning so I didn't get out on my run until 0630. It was raining lightly, the streets were wet, and it was not really that cold. I loved the run. I ran the three miles without a break. I am excited that my endurance has improved. I will keep working at it this month. My goal in December is to improve 10% in my mileage from November. Overall that will be 73 miles. That will be a mix of three and four miles a day.

| | AM Run this morning before taking Zac out to the Hurricane Invitational. Only had time to go three. That is as far as I wanted to go for my weekly mileage. This was a good week for me. Overall my legs felt stronger and my endurance has improved. I will keep going to reach my goal for the month. Jon

AM Run -- Strained a calf muscle about 3/4 through my run. I don't know how I strained the muscle. It just tightened up and then felt like it cramped up. I stopped for a short time and then finished. As I write this I have taken some IBU and used wintercrest. The musclue is still sore. I hope it doesn't interfere with my goal.

Cross fit training day as I strained a muscle in my left calf. I am kind of bummed about not being able to run.

Cross trainied at Golds Gym this morning. Worked out for 45 minutes. Eliptical, and stationary bike. I also did pull ups, and lat pull downs.

AM Run. My leg was sore this moring and threatened to cramp up the last 1/4 of a mile. I took two walking breaks to give my leg a rest. Felt good to run again. Wish my leg would cooperate.

| | AM Run. I got up early before Zac had to be to his wrestling match and ran three miles. I took Zac and Trevor over the Dixie High School, did a few errands at home, and then went to Golds for 30 + minutes. I worked on the Eliptical, and the stationary bike. I also did a little weights lifting. Good workout for the day. Ran three miles. |

| | AM Run -- It is drizzling out side this morning. Made is so that I was soaked by the time I finished my run. That doesn't happen often in the desert. I did enjoy my run, the cool temperatures, the sound of car tires on wet roads, and periodically splashing around in a rain puddle. When was the last time I did that. My left leg is still sore and weaker that it has been in the past couple of months. I am not sure what that is about. I wondered this morning if some of it was that I haven't stretched really well. So, now I am stretching to see if I can't resolve this little problem. Ran past Article Circle and on to the BLVD. |
