Half Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

Recently have become interested in running thanks to my daughter and her XC adventures. I have finished a 5K and 10K. As I am new to running, I don't have a lot of highlites at this point. Hopefully this will change

Short-Term Running Goals:

First build back up to running thirty minutes at a time.

5K October 30 -- Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

10k in November -- Butch Cassidy race in Springdale.

I would like to build a solid base over the next 6 - 12 months. I hope to run in either 5K or 10K races through the next year and perhaps one 1/2 marathon (depending on how my body responds to training).

 

I would like to see how fast and far my 40 + year old body is capable of running.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Over the next 10 years I want to run consistently to maintain health and to enjoy a sport that challenges me.

Personal:

I have a wonderful marriage of 20+ years and have four children who are the light of my life. They range in age from 19 - 12 . . . two girls and two boys. Two of my children are interested in running.  Sierra and Zac are both participating on the Pine View XC Team.

AM -- Didn't sleep well last night so I slept a little longer this morning and didn't run.  I will get out 4 - 5 times this week, however.

AM Run -- At the Gym with Zac.  Extended the run by a couple of blocks.  I am feeling stronger and I am running longer than at the first of the run than I have in the past.  Kind of fun to see progress.

AM Run -- At the Gym again with Zac.  He was tired and sick this morning.  Not sure how effective his workout was.  I had a good run.  Again I am happy to see progress.  I still have several more weeks to go to get my distance work down so that I can run for thirty minutes straight.  After that I may consider doing some speed work.

My legs were sore this morning.  I guess I haven't gone three days in a row for a little while.  Still I am very grateful that I can run and that I am up and enjoying the morning.  One more run this week.

AM Run.  I slept in and then went for my run around eight.  That felt really good.  Ran the Artic Circle route plus a little extra to make up the four miles.

AM Run -- Made it straight from the Gym to BLVD without stopping for the first time.  Felt good.  Ran a little more today for 45 minutes including a short break in the middle for stretching.  Felt good today.

AM -- Run.  Dropped Zac at the Gym and I went on my usual route.  I have been running the first 1.5 non-stop.  I thought it would take longer to do this that it has.  Feels good to see improvement in my endurance.

AM run.  Woke up late this morning and Zac didn't want to go to the Gym.  He broke his thumb and is unable to do some of the workouts.  Anyway, I ran a short run just because.

AM Run -- back at the Gym this morning.  Good workout.  It is getting cooler.  First  time I wore glove and my ear warmers.

AM run.  Zac wanted to run this morning instead of  doing cross fit.  I ran the artic circle route.  I didn't have enough time for four miles and my legs are tired.  Ran an easy three.  I ran 1.5 both ways with a rest in between the runs.  Zac is ornery this morning.  I think he is anticipating being hungry.

Zac didn't want to go to the jail this morning so I ran my four mile loop at home.  Ran two miles straight this morning.  On the way back I stopped once for under a minute break.  My endurance is getting a lot better.

AM Run from the Gym this morning.  Felt good mostly.  My calfs were sore and legs tired.  Not sure what that was about.

AM Run.  Ran the Artic Circle route this morning.  I had a really hard time motivating myself to get up and run.  Again my legs were tired.

AM Run.  Varied my work out this morning to include sprints during the first 1.5 miles.  I would sprint a short distance, walk to regain my breathe jog and then sprint again.  The second 1.5 miles I ran all the way.

AM Run.  Zac and I went up to the school to run.  1 mile warm up, 1 mile sprinting the straight ways, and walking the corners, and 1.25 miles running stadiums.  I pulled a muscle in my calf and hamstring while sprinting and it is a little sore to walk on.  Nice workout.  Coldest morning yet this fall.

Some of the weight loss is undoubtedly water weight.  I am a little dehydrated today.

AM run.  I ran from home this morning down the the corner of the BLVD.  Ran the first two miles without a break.  The second two miles I took a small break at Mall drive.  I like that my endurance is improving.

AM run.  I ran the shorter route this morning before putting the turkey into the oven.  I guess that I ran 2.5 without a break.  My legs were sore and the muscle I pulled from earlier in the week was bothering me.  Enjoyed thanksgiving with our family.  I have much to be thankful for.  I hope that in a small way I can contribute back some of what I have been blessed with.

AM -- Run.  Boy it is sure getting cold in the mornings.  Ran my usual home route.  I ran the first two miles without stopping, rested a short while and then ran the second two miles with one brief rest.

AM Run -- I ran at home with Sierra.  Zac, I think, has given up the morning workout at the Gym.  This morning was a nice easy run.  Sierra felt a little sick at the mid way point, but then felt better and was able to finish the run.  It was nice to be able to run with her again.

AM Run -- Tried to get Sierra to run with me this morning.  She, however, had planned an afternoon run with her friends.  It was cold this morning.  I have a hard time getting out the door and into the cold.  Once there, I really enjoyed my run.  Ran my usual four mile route.
