Half Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

Recently have become interested in running thanks to my daughter and her XC adventures. I have finished a 5K and 10K. As I am new to running, I don't have a lot of highlites at this point. Hopefully this will change

Short-Term Running Goals:

First build back up to running thirty minutes at a time.

5K October 30 -- Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

10k in November -- Butch Cassidy race in Springdale.

I would like to build a solid base over the next 6 - 12 months. I hope to run in either 5K or 10K races through the next year and perhaps one 1/2 marathon (depending on how my body responds to training).

 

I would like to see how fast and far my 40 + year old body is capable of running.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Over the next 10 years I want to run consistently to maintain health and to enjoy a sport that challenges me.

Personal:

I have a wonderful marriage of 20+ years and have four children who are the light of my life. They range in age from 19 - 12 . . . two girls and two boys. Two of my children are interested in running.  Sierra and Zac are both participating on the Pine View XC Team.

AM Run  --  I got out later than usual.  My bed was much more comfortable this morning than the cold out doors.  I ran my usual four mile route.  Nice run.  Two miles without stopping.  Stretched and then another two miles with one walking break.  I am nearly to the point I could do the whole two miles.

AM Run.  I ran my usual route this morning.  I got out later than I wanted -- 0630.  I would have liked to been out running by 0500.  Ran 2.0 miles straight.  Small walking break in the second 2 miles.

AM Run.  I slept in this morning.  Jill and I went to Washington Elementary to pick up produce, and then I ran home.  Ran without stopping.  I was disappointed to learn that the distance wasn't 3.  I would have liked to say I ran a 5 k this morning.  Nevertheless, my endurance has improved and I am happy with my follow through and commitment.

AM Run -- I slept in again this morning so I didn't get out on my run until 0630.  It was raining lightly, the streets were wet, and it was not really that cold.  I loved the run.  I ran the three miles without a break.  I am excited that my endurance has improved.  I will keep working at it this month.  My goal in December is to improve 10% in my mileage from November.  Overall that will be 73 miles.  That will be a mix of three and four miles a day.

I am posting this late so I don't remember a lot about this run.  This week I woke up later than usual and therefore did not have as much time.  The mornings this week have been nice . . . not as cold.  I am still running in my sweats, headband, and gloves.

AM Run this morning before taking Zac out to the Hurricane Invitational.  Only had time to go three.  That is as far as I wanted to go for my weekly mileage.  This was a good week for me.  Overall my legs felt stronger and my endurance has improved.  I will keep going to reach my goal for the month.

AM Run -- Strained a calf muscle about 3/4 through my run.  I don't know how I strained the muscle.  It just tightened up and then felt like it cramped up.  I stopped for a short time and then finished.  As I write this I have taken some IBU and used wintercrest.  The musclue is still sore.  I hope it doesn't interfere with my goal.

Cross fit training day as I strained a muscle in my left calf.  I am kind of bummed about not being able to run.

Cross trainied at Golds Gym this morning.  Worked out for 45 minutes.  Eliptical, and stationary bike.  I also did pull ups, and lat pull downs.

AM Run.  My leg was sore this moring and threatened to cramp up the last 1/4 of a mile.  I took two walking breaks to give my leg a rest.  Felt good to run again.  Wish my leg would cooperate.

AM Run.  I got up early before Zac had to be to his wrestling match and ran three miles.  I took Zac and Trevor over the Dixie High School, did a few errands at home, and then went to Golds for 30 + minutes.  I worked on the Eliptical, and the stationary bike.  I also did a little weights lifting.  Good workout for the day.  Ran three miles.

AM Run -- It is drizzling out side this morning.  Made is so that I was soaked by the time I finished my run.  That doesn't happen often in the desert.  I did enjoy my run, the cool temperatures, the sound of car tires on wet roads, and periodically splashing around in a rain puddle.  When was the last time I did that.  My left leg is still sore and weaker that it has been in the past couple of months.  I am not sure what that is about.  I wondered this morning if some of it was that I haven't stretched really well.  So, now I am stretching to see if I can't resolve this little problem.  Ran past Article Circle and on to the BLVD.

PM Run.  I ran this week with Zachary and Sierra after work.  Ran up past AC and then down past the hospital and on to the Post Office.  Jessica was kind enough to pick us up after the run.

PM Run at Gold's Gym.  It was cold and raining outside and I didn't want to battle the wet.  Spent time on the Eliptical, and the tread mill.  Also a little bit of weight training.
