5:00 am   72 degrees   91% humidity - another nice morning!

I have been wanting to repeat a workout I did early this summer for a while and this was the week.  We have a road outside our subdivision that measures 1.13 miles and is pretty hilly.  On the out direction you have a .15 steep climb then a gradual down hill for another .2.  Then it is up hill until the last .2 which is a pretty steep down hill  - and then you can return and it is just about as difficult both ways.

One of my goals outside of the work out was to see how I compared to June's work out.  I did not look at the splits before, I wanted to just run hard and see what the out come was.

I warmed up for 2 miles and then stretched good.  On the first out mile, I started out faster than I should have and I knew it right away.  I tried to pace myself better but was not overly successful.   On the repeat I felt good until the last climb - about .35 left and I almost puked, no good reason why.   Headed back out and I was getting tired but it wasn't as bad as I had expected and then on the way back in for the last time my legs were on fire and I lost some focus.  I felt like I was running in slow motion and I had a difficult time staying in the zone until the last .4 and was able to kick it back in.

In no way will I look forward to this anytime soon, but it will be worth repeating.  So here are the splits from June:

Out splits (1&3)  8:45, 8:21

Back splits (2&4) 8:34, 8:01

and here are the splits from today:

 Out Splits (1 & 3) 8:18, 7:59

Back Splits ( 2 & 4) 8:13, 8:05 - pretty disappointed by this - should be faster than #3

The good thing is I have picked up some speed since June or pushed quite a bit harder - possibly a combination of both.

Ave Pace 8:34

Happy Running!

YEAH----that is good news! Nice workout.

Glad the weather is cooing down some for you (it was 20 degrees cooler here at 5 am). We are getting a heat wave for the next week---high 80's! Like 15 above normal. That could make St George miserable!!!

I think we just posted on each others blogs at the exact same moment!!!!!

Too funny! Heat was always my worry with SG - it wouldn't be this year :)

It will be a nice day and you will be awesome!

You have more confidence than I do. I am starting to get really stressed. I like last year when I was not worried about getting any time, just finishing and not hurting. STRESS makes it kind of not fun (until I get running, then I will be okay!)

This stress is not fun, it took me along time to realize how stressful the taper is. Just try to have a little fun along the way to a sub 3:15 - amazing!

I will have fun when it is over (whther or not I can beat that dang time!)

So, are you planning any marathons in the future? My sister in law ran on in TX last fall and really liked the course.

I am not sure. One thing I have learned the last few weeks while I have been running more, is that with work I cannot train like I did before. If I can run 4 days a week it is a success. There is one in February here in Fort Worth and I am toying with that and I am debating signing up for Boston but we will see.

What did your sister run? I would like to run a half in Nov/Dec.

Not sure, I will have to ask her. I just remember it was in TX in the fall.

I only work part time now and I am so tired all of the time it is ridiculous. I do not know how anyone works all day and trains. It baffles me.

Half are good. They do not require near as much training, they are more fun, and they do not abuse the body!!!

There are varying degrees of tiredness. I told myself when I came here I would have to change and I have. I missed today because I was completely exhausted, but I am learning that it is okay. Running and complete exhaustion are not a good combination.

Where are you working? How are you doing that much?

I miss the training - I like that much more than the race itself. Obviously that is why I haven't signed up for anything for almost a year.

I teach math at my kids school. So, I take Emma to kindergarten and then I go in and work until they get out. I am missing having some free time. I still have Fridays off (I just have to go in after school for an hour to plan with the other two teachers), but it is wearing me out. Hopefully I will get used to it. I AM EXHAUSTED!!! It has stressed me out so I have not been able to sleep.

I wish I could let running go----in 5 weeks I will! Then if I am too tired, I will opt to sleep.
