AM - 6 miles on the bike path near my hotel (which conveniently had a dirt section for horses). The eight-minute guy dominated me... he's better acclimated to the low elevation.

PM - 9 miles. Meandered around the Torrey Pines trails. Other than the GIANT hill at the park entrance, it was really enjoyable. Gorgeous evening.

Lots of horses up in Del Mar with the horse track and polo fields in the area. Sometimes you see horses on Dog Beach too!! I once almost collided with a horse while running on an equestrian trail because the horse's rider was texting!!

He probably got on a horse. I swear he cheats some times.

Had a thought: has anyone done research on the effects of recovery at sea level? For instance, yesterday perhaps you recovered better/about the same even though you went longer. Of course, this really is only pertinent (assuming there's something to it) for those able to move back and forth.

This is what you get in the humanities: an ability to pose questions you don't have the training to investigate so other people can research them :-)

No texting and horsing!

Jason - in theory, yes, it would enhance recovery. That's what a hyperbaric chamber would do - increase air pressure and O2 saturation. In reality though, the difference between 4500 feet and 0 probably isn't that much (like going in a chamber). I'm not sure on that, though.... and now I'm curious...
