AM - 12 miles. FAJA. 6.6 w/ the girls, then Fritz ran part of the rest of the way up to work with me. Apparently the beaches in Brazil are filled with "perfect" looking dudes - I argue that they can't be better looking than the guys you find at Sugar House Park at 6:15am on Wednesdays (even w/ James not showing up this morning). I guess Andrea will have to send back some photos and we'll find out for sure. Plus, what's their 10K PR? :-)

This is a great article comparing Canova and Lydiard. I've read it two nights in a row. Those interested in coaching (esp. Rob M) will find this interesting. "Principles, not formulas, are the keys to successful training" Although if you don't want to read 20 pages or have never heard of Renato Canova, Camille Herron's blog today is a lot shorter and has a great take-home point as well.

PM - 8.2 miles home. Andrea met me along the way and biked along. I also made a pre-planned two minute stop to sell some excess ski tickets. Productive run!

There is just no way the men in Brazil can compare to the men in Sugar House at 6am. Maybe thats where I need to start hanging out to meet the man of my dreams. :) The cows and horses in Payson are not getting any better looking these days!

I'm way ahead of you - or at least tied.

I spent much of last night reading that.

I don't know what to say.....But I will read that article later.

camille herron's blog is brilliant.

as for the brazilian beach men -- if you guys can do this while running through sugarhouse park, you win: http://tinyurl.com/7x2hoze

my #1 curiousity right now is how many pages deep into google you had to go to find that photo after typing "brazilian beach men" - but I'm afraid to do it at work!

I still think there is a 90% chance that is going to take me to some sort of child predator website

I love the great articles on training philosophy/science. I just wish they were dumbed down a bit to give to some of the parents that wonder why their kid is running doubles and so many miles. Logan mentioned the other day that a parent said to him, "I ran in college, and that is not the way we trained.". Comments like that often come out to running coaches because everyone seems to have someone in their family who has run something/somewhere and knows EVERYTHING there is to know about running.

I agree with you Dave... I mean, I have a background in exercise science and have been soaking up info on running for a decade, and I can still barely understand a third of the stuff Renato Canova is talking about. Or at least comprehend the paces and effort levels of the workouts he talks about.

But really its not all that complicated - I read something recently that talked about how a really strong aerobic foundation can cover up a lot of other errors made in training. Its true - if you do the strength work and are healthy, you can "sharpen" almost any way you want and you'll probably have some good results.

I'm sure its fun when a parent who has a cousin who did a obstacle course race 2 years ago tells you how to coach? :-)

Great quote from John Kellogg, when asked about why you should run doubles and higher mileage - "Because it works"
