Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Boom island. 6:46 pace. Colder outside today, but it was plenty light because of daylight savings. I pulled out the new shoes to protect my tight achilles. There isn't much more than that that I can be doing (I'm also wearing my compression socks).

6:58 pace on farmers fields, when I was actually running. I got a piece of sand or something stuck in my eye on Como avenue and I spent like 5 minutes trying to get it out then more time running with my head cocked and eyes at a weird angle before stopping again multiple times and finally getting it out on Gortner avenue. Yikes!

Achilles felt better.

6:54 pace on east river flats. It was misty, wet, very warm weather. Great day for a run.

6:55 pace on west river road. A gorgeous cloudy, humid day of just under 60 degrees when I ran. I soaked up the last warm day of the year!

Como classic, first day of winter lol. Windy but I guess the cold made me run faster? 6:41 pace. That's very surprising but double checked and is accurate.

Not bad. On a quiet, cloudy morning that was cold but not super (29 degrees ish), I ran 5:46 pace past wheelock parkway, onto trout creek trail, and then running the first part of gateway trail. Wind was blowing south so this route was probably a lucky call, cuz it usually was mild since I was going almost always due east or west. I felt pretty fast for most of it. I was surprised to not really feel fatigued until the last couple miles. Overall, this route which I've done before felt a lot shorter today than it has in the past. 5:39 pace on the way back. This was a good day to be my last harder effort before I race on thanksgiving. One other note was that I felt kind of "hot" going out, and didn't think I'd be able to hold it. Its weird how my body really does adapt, since those beginning couple of miles were actually my slowest of the day, and yet they felt the hardest. I think it takes a bit for your aerobic engine to kick into gear.
