Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

East river flats. 78 degrees but overcast and didn't feel too bad. Felt way more tired than I'd like for 6:58 pace. I'd like to race next weekend, but don't want to if I don't start feeling better.

I can’t think of enough superlatives. Probably the best run I’ve ever been on. This was technically my fourth time on the gateway trail but only my second in the rural side, and last time the trees hasn’t bloomed yet. This time, there were ferns on the ground, towering deciduous trees with bright leaves, starkly contrasting white aspens, and pine trees, all a little dark while reflecting an overcast grey sky. It was like the garden of Eden. This run alone was worth a week of winter weather. I just couldn’t get enough (though I only dared to stop at the turn around, as I would become drenched in sweat).

With mile markers on a run like that, the miles tick by and you’re turning around before you know it. I could’ve gone 20 miles easy today despite the humidity (or at least, turned around at 10 miles thinking it would be easy).

I have a very favorable image of Stillwater area in my head, which is helped because all three times I’ve run there, it’s been a warm, overcast day.

Overall it was 5:50 pace for 13 miles. Hopefully my ability to “chill” at that pace will mean I can go much faster next week.
