Short-Term Running Goals: -Find some good local races to run that will motivate me to stay in shape. Long-Term Running Goals: -Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list.
-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.
Personal: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I live in the Twin Cities with my family and am an Epidemiology PhD Student. Running is the only hobby I have time for :) |

| | Nice warm overcast morning. Ran a campus loop, then did a little pre-race workout responsive to how I felt. I did 400, 800, 600 in 69, 2:18, 1:43, with up to 80 seconds rest.

| | Another bad night of sleep. Darn it. West river road (from Franklin, although I suppose I could have taken the M bridge too)

Get in Gear (6.214 Miles) 00:30:54, Place overall: 2 | | I got 2nd place at Get in Gear! In other news, the sky is blue haha (this is my third year in a row getting 2nd). Splits were 4:56, 4:58, 5:04, 5:03, 4:58, 5:53 (1.2). This year it was sunny out which is like not ok for Get in Gear lol. Although I ran a good bit faster than last year and significantly slower than the year prior, each year my splits have been very even. It has helped to follow someone consistent each year. This year, a very brave runner who clearly belonged nowhere near the front went out in front for a good quarter mile. I was in third for a bit after that, but I soon passed that person and perceived a gap opening up a lot quicker than I expected behind me. After I made it over the St Thomas hill, I felt pretty good and it appears I was able to speed up a bit. Then either due to speeding up or just fatigue, I really started to feel it coming over the last bridge back. But today my mental game was royally bad. For like the last 3-4 miles of that race, my mind was mostly concentrated on not getting passed by the person in third. I barely gave any thought to the possibility of passing the runner in first. This is especially crazy given that I was only 4 seconds off of the win, and 33 seconds ahead of third place! Obviously had I offered more of a challenge to the winner, he might have responded. But still, I'd like to have the mojo to spend more time "looking forward" rather than behind me in races.
