Short-Term Running Goals: -Find some good local races to run that will motivate me to stay in shape. Long-Term Running Goals: -Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list.
-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.
Personal: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I live in the Twin Cities with my family and am an Epidemiology PhD Student. Running is the only hobby I have time for :) |

| | 7 flat pace. After much hemming and hawing, I decided to run in the morning and set a season record low temperature (5 degrees) in doing so. Ran east on Como. It was clear that some places waited until after the weekend to bring in snow removal.

Didn't notice this until a day later, but yay for hitting 3k miles.

| | 7:22 pace, west river north. Another half inch of slow that fell last night slowed things down. Once again, there were areas in which the sidewalk was actually cleared during my run.

| | Today I felt like a true Minnesotan. I brought my bike on the bus and almost just biked to school in -5 degrees, then biked home in 12 degrees and went for a run in the same weather. Later afternoon is kind of nice on gray winter days like today. 6:54 pace on my Como park "low on daylight" loop around the lake. The darkness hasn't been a major issue yet this year.
Thoughts on new shoes: it's Saucony so of course it was going to feel good putting it on and fit well. Shoes felt too breathable for winter at first, but I'm not sure they are worse than Triumphs yet. They were a bit clunky but not too much. If they last, they will make good walking shoes like other big shoes that I've had.

| | 7:05 pace, straight out on Como and around the lake. I ended up going at 6 pm, which fulfilled my goal to do a winter run really in the dark. However, between the snow and the clouds, it wasn't dark at all. I actually preferred the places where street lights weren't on so I could just use the light from the sky. It was fun.

| | 6:26 pace, east river road. By the end I was so tired. I obviously ran last night, and maybe the cold contributed (even though neither run was frigid). A lot of the fatigue was just from running on the snow which felt like sand. It slowed me down a lot. The bike path in St Paul was the best groomed.

| | 7:08 pace, Falcon Heights route. It was a nice snowy Minnesota run on a gray late afternoon.

| | 7:14 pace, east river road. It's hard to believe I slogged through that snow in the morning to avoid even more snow coming later. Still, I was a long ways away from preferring to be running inside.

| | Dumped some more snow last night. The roads appeared marginally run-able, but certainly not the sidewalks, especially as of the morning. So, treadmill day number 1.

| | 7:02 pace, Como avenue to transitway and stadium to avoid snow. 9 degrees and overcast (again) but I felt surprisingly comfortable. As evidence of this, I looked at my watch once expecting it to be 22 minutes or so and it was actually 28. You would expect the time warp to be in the opposite direction on a new route if I were feeling uncomfortable for whatever reason. The only downside was that overall the air isn't great on that route, and I got a couple of face fulls of fumes from busses.

| | 7:12 pace. I went on my Falcon Heights / Roseville route, not realizing I did that just on Monday. Oh well. You've got to find places that aren't too snowy. It started snowing on me at the end.

| | Treadmill run. It was -7 and I was tempted to run outside. Long runs are especially arduous on the treadmill, but at least I can run. And the new fans help for sure.
